These days the line between PC and console gaming is thin. Almost every game available on a Windows or Mac is also playable on an Xbox or PlayStation system. The main difference is the ability to further customize graphics options on a PC.<\/p>\n

However, in the past, the chasm separating consoles and computers was much wider, with numerous classic PC games never even having a hope of coming to a home console. While many previously exclusive PC titles have since made their way to consoles, many of them are still stuck on a computer. Maybe some of these will change in the future.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Starcraft 2<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Some may forget how the original\u00a0Starcraft<\/em> came out on the N64, though it is hardly the optimal way to play. While RTS games are always better to play with a mouse and keyboard<\/a>, it would still be nice to be able to play the game on a console. Since Blizzard is not likely returning to the series anytime soon, a port is probably nowhere on their list of priorities.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>System Shock<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

After\u00a0Doom<\/em>, first-person shooters all tried to copy the hectic action of the 1993 classic.\u00a0System Shock<\/em> went down a different route, crafting an atmospheric adventure with RPG elements<\/a> that went on to influence the immersive sim genre. The sequel,\u00a0System Shock 2<\/em>, was similarly impactful in the first-person genre. Irrational Games developed the second game, and the developer would go on to make the classic\u00a0BioShock<\/em> series<\/a>.\u00a0System Shock 3<\/em> is currently in development, along with a remake of\u00a0System Shock<\/em>.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>The Witcher<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Witcher 3<\/em> is one of the most celebrated games of the last generation. It revolutionized the open-world RPG<\/a>. Any console gamer who wants to go back and experience the prior titles has to stop at\u00a0The\u00a0Witcher 2<\/i>. The first game is only available on PC. The debut title is a little rough around the edges, but it is still worth playing for a bit as a curiosity.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Diablo 2<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The first\u00a0Diablo<\/em>\u00a0has a release on the original PlayStation, and this version actually has local cooperative play.<\/a>\u00a0But the legendary sequel,\u00a0Diablo 2<\/em>, is only available on PC.<\/p>\n

The game has been updated numerous times over the past twenty years. However, console gamers only have to wait a bit to get their hands on it\u00a0since the remake,\u00a0Diablo 2:\u00a0<\/em><\/a>Resurrected<\/a>,\u00a0<\/i>will come to PlayStation and Xbox platforms in addition to Switch. Playing with a controller is a totally different experience than playing with a mouse and keyboard.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Fallout<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Fallout\u00a0<\/em>series reached a new level of popularity when Bethesda took over the franchise<\/a> and put the action into a first-person perspective. However, plenty are still yearning for the days of Interplay Entertainment’s isometric RPGs. Any console gamer curious about the series’ past has to jump on a computer to check it out. Putting them on a console seems like a surefire way to make a few bucks, and we’re curious as to why it has not happened yet.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Warcraft \/ Warcraft 3<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Back in the 90s it was hit or miss concerning whether RTS games came to consoles.\u00a0Starcraft<\/em> came to the N64 while the first\u00a0Command and Conquer<\/em>\u00a0made a similar move.\u00a0Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness\u00a0<\/em>made its way to the original PlayStation in 1997, but the debut title and\u00a0Warcraft 3<\/em> stayed exclusively on the computers. The third title is considered the best, though Blizzard dropped the ball with the remake.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Battlefield 2<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Before\u00a0Battlefield<\/em> was EA’s bid to compete with the monstrous\u00a0Call of Duty\u00a0<\/em>franchise, it was a unique military FPS for PCs with giant battles.\u00a0Some fans are still yearning for the days before\u00a0Battlefield 3<\/em>. It is surprising there has been no\u00a0re-release of the original games for both PC and consoles. While newer games still have\u00a0large-scale battles,<\/a> they have a distinctly different feel\u00a0compared to\u00a0the original PC titles.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

While\u00a0Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind<\/em><\/a> runs tragically bad on the original Xbox<\/a>, it was still a revelation to see such a large open-world RPG on a console. Since then, western RPGs on a similar scale have regularly made their way to Xbox and PlayStation systems.<\/p>\n

However, RPGs with release dates prior to 2002 have been ported.\u00a0Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall\u00a0<\/em>is a particularly beloved entry in the franchise. While it is hard to get into for modern gamers, a console version would still be interesting to dive into for history’s sake.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Thief: The Dark Project<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Most associate first-person shooters with intense action. The\u00a0Thief<\/em> series turned this notion around by forcing players to play as stealthily as possible. This design would later influence games like\u00a0Dishonored<\/em>.\u00a0Thief: The Dark Project<\/em> was too graphically impressive for consoles in 1998, but these days a port\u00a0would not be hard to pull off. While other games have improved upon the gameplay, revisiting a classic would still be interesting.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

This atmospheric science fiction first-person shooter quickly became a cult hit. It is far from perfect, but the originality helped it shine and distinguish itself from other first-person shooters. The\u00a0Metro<\/em> series<\/a> is seen as a spiritual successor, but it lacks the hardcore survival elements and open areas of\u00a0S.T.A.L.K.E.R.\u00a0<\/em>With a sequel currently in development for Xbox and PC, now is as good a time as ever to re-release the original to attract a new legion of fans.<\/p>\n
