\tSamsung Networks won a deal to provide 5G new radio (NR) equipment to Japanese operator NTT Docomo, further advancing the South Korean vendor\u2019s share of the global market.<\/p>\n

In a brief statement, Samsung said it will deliver an open RAN-compliant system to boost Docomo\u2019s 5G coverage. The operator launched a commercial service [1] in March 2020, ending the year with 1.4 million subscribers [2].<\/p>\n

Within the statement, Stefan Pongratz, VP of market research company Dell\u2019Oro Group, branded the Docomo deal \u201csignificant\u201d due to the operator\u2019s \u201chistory of being at the forefront\u201d of new technologies. He added it \u201ccements Samsung\u2019s position as a major 5G RAN supplier\u201d.<\/p>\n

Rival Japanese operator KDDI contracted Samsung as one of its 5G suppliers [3] in 2019.<\/p>\n

The vendor also enjoyed success in the US, holding deals with Verizon, AT&T [4] and UScellular.<\/p>\n

It also has next-generation supply contracts with operators in its home market, Canadian operators Telus [5] and Videotron; and Spark in New Zealand.<\/p>\n
