Several merchandise and games were released over the span of several months to commemorate Mario&#8217;s impact within the video game industry.<\/p>\n<p>The celebrations were first announced by Nintendo in September 2020 during a special <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-mario-bros-35th-anniversary-nintendo-direct-recap\/\">Direct dedicated to Mario&#8217;s 35th anniversary<\/a>. Included with the announcement of <em>Super Mario 3D World<\/em>&#8216;s expansion,\u00a0<em>Bowser&#8217;s Fury<\/em>, several exclusive pieces of merchandise were also announced. The\u00a0<em>Super Mario Bros<\/em> Game and Watch handheld device,\u00a0<em>Super Mario Bros 35,<\/em> and the\u00a0<em>Super Mario 3D All-Stars<\/em> collection for the Switch were among\u00a0the limited-run games that Nintendo announced during the Direct.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-mario-bros-35-world-count-challenge\/\">Final Super Mario Bros. 35 World Count Challenge Happening Next Week<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Since the original Direct, Nintendo has warned that the limited-run titles and merch would be removed at the end of March. Now, with a week away from March 31st, the date looms over\u00a0<em>Mario<\/em> fans with some declaring the date as the &#8220;death of Mario.&#8221;\u00a0Since the original announcement of the deadline months ago, Nintendo has been subtly reminding its fans of the incoming date, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-still-removing-mario-anniversary-products-sale-despite-fan-objections\/\">despite resistance from some of its fans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChikoritaCheez\/status\/1373429995058601984\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Super Mario 3D All-Stars<\/em>, for example, includes remasters of\u00a0<em>Super Mario 64<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Super Mario Galaxy<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Super Mario Sunshine<\/em> on the Switch, three games that had never received a port on the console prior to the announcement. Many fans show concerns that the removal of these games on March 31st equates to the &#8220;death&#8221; of the overall-wearing plumber, removing a piece of history and locking it in the Nintendo vault indefinitely. Nintendo has reassured that\u00a0<em>Super Mario 3D World\u00a0 + Bowser&#8217;s Fury<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit\u00a0<\/em>would remain available among retailers, with several\u00a0pushing the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/game-watch-super-mario-bros-getting-one-final-restock-australia\/\">final restock of\u00a0the Game and Watch and\u00a0<em>Super Mario 3D All Stars<\/em><\/a> titles.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarioFreak2001\/status\/1369700902496567299\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Unrelated to the conclusion of the Mario 35th Anniversary event, another title that Nintendo is removing on the 31st is\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fire-emblem-shadow-dragon-blade-of-light-switch-release\/\">Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>the Switch port of the first\u00a0<em>Fire Emblem\u00a0<\/em>game released on the NES. What makes this removal disappointing to Nintendo fans, especially\u00a0<em>Fire Emblem<\/em> fans, is that the game was never released outside of Japan officially.
