Capcom’s\u00a0Monster Hunter<\/em><\/strong> series is arguably one of the company’s most successful franchises, especially within the handheld market. With the impending release of\u00a0Monster Hunter Rise\u00a0<\/em>later this week and another\u00a0Monster Hunter<\/em><\/a> title on the way, fans will have many dragons to look forward to for months and years to come.<\/p>\n

The second\u00a0Monster Hunter<\/em> title releasing this year on the Switch,\u00a0Monster Hunter Stories 2<\/em>, is, as the name suggests, more story-driven than the traditional gameplay featured in\u00a0Rise<\/em>. The sequel to the original released on the 3DS<\/a>,\u00a0Stories 2<\/em> will feature the same turn-based gameplay as the original, with co-op multiplayer included and cross-compatibility with\u00a0Rise<\/em>. While the game isn’t open-world like\u00a0Rise<\/em>, the storage size of\u00a0Stories 2<\/em> is surprisingly hefty for a Switch title.<\/p>\n

Officially revealed on Nintendo Australia’s game page, the file size for\u00a0Monster Hunter Stories 2<\/em> is expected to be 14.6 GB. Compared to\u00a0Monster Hunter Rise’s<\/em> 6.6 GB, the spinoff\u00a0Monster Hunter<\/em> title is over two times the size of its main counterpart. A better comparison is the file size for\u00a0Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne HD<\/em><\/a>, another RPG set to release soon on the Switch, rounding at around 6 GB. Amusingly, the original file size of\u00a0Monster Hunter Stories<\/em> on the 3DS was only 1.8 GB in size.<\/p>\n

Amiibo support was recently announced for\u00a0Monster Hunter Stories 2<\/em>, with the title confirmed to have at least three different amiibos<\/a> on launch. The game will also have a deluxe edition and pre-order bonuses for players, including several exclusive armor sets and sticker sets to use in-game.<\/p>\n

Following the discovery of\u00a0Stories 2<\/em>‘s file size, fans are concerned about the amount of content\u00a0Rise<\/em> will have compared to\u00a0Stories 2\u00a0<\/em>based on the file sizes between the two games. In the past, however,\u00a0Monster Hunter<\/em> games have been notoriously small in size compared to the amount of content the games have to offer.\u00a0On launch,\u00a0Monster Hunter World<\/em> estimated around 16 GB<\/a> and it became one of Capcom’s most successful titles in the past decade despite its small size compared to other PS4 titles at the time.<\/p>\n

Fans expecting the original\u00a0Monster Hunter Stories<\/em> to return in some capacity on the Switch would be advised not to hold their breath. During an interview in November,\u00a0Monster Hunter<\/em> producer Ryozo Tsujimoto shut down rumors of\u00a0Monster Hunter Stories<\/em> being ported on the Switch. However, depending on the success of\u00a0Monster Hunter Stories 2<\/em>, the chance of the original on the Switch may be a consideration from the developers.<\/p>\n

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>releases on July 9th, 2021 on PC and the Switch.<\/p>\n
