With the long-awaited release of Zack Snyder\u2019s Justice League<\/strong><\/em><\/a> on HBO Max, DC fans\u00a0are finally able to see the original director\u2019s vision for the movie. Neither Snyder nor Warner Bros. seems interested in restoring the SnyderVerse branch of the DCEU\u00a0since that ship sailed four years ago, so Snyder has been opening up in interviews about what his initial plans for the Justice League<\/em> sequels were.<\/p>\n

After revealing that his second Justice League<\/em> movie would\u2019ve been a feature-length version of the \u201cKnightmare\u201d sequence from Batman v Superman<\/em>, Snyder has revealed in a new interview with Esquire that the third one would\u2019ve refocused the story on Henry Cavill’s Superman<\/a>. Effectively, Snyder\u2019s Justice League 3<\/em> would\u2019ve been a true sequel to Man of Steel<\/em>. Throughout his arc in Snyder\u2019s DCEU, Superman \u201cwould have gone from this kind of berserker Superman to a benevolent Superman.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Snyder, by the third Justice League<\/em> movie, Wonder Woman would\u2019ve been crowned the queen of Themyscira<\/a> and Batman would\u2019ve made the ultimate sacrifice. Following Batman\u2019s death, Superman would take over the responsibilities of leading the League. Furthermore, Wonder Woman would lead the armies of Themyscira, Aquaman would lead the armies of Atlantis, and Supes would lead humanity in the final stand against Darkseid.<\/p>\n

The threequel would\u2019ve focused so heavily on Clark Kent that it would\u2019ve been more of a Superman<\/em> solo movie than an ensemble Justice League<\/em> team-up. Snyder explained, \u201cThe final movie [Justice League 3<\/em>] was going to be very much a Superman movie<\/a>… to just bookend the whole thing.\u201d If Snyder had been able to complete his vision for the larger DCEU, then Superman would\u2019ve ended up with \u201cthe hugest arc of everybody, because he goes from, like, the main villain to, like, the main hero.\u201d Traditionally, Superman doesn\u2019t change much over the course of his stories because he\u2019s usually a perfect symbol of good, so he doesn\u2019t need to change. Snyder\u2019s DCEU would\u2019ve subverted this.<\/p>\n

While Snyder\u2019s plans for the Justice League<\/em> trilogy are certainly ambitious, it sadly doesn\u2019t look as though any of it will ever make it to the screen. Snyder himself has said that he\u2019s not interested in making any more DC movies<\/a> after releasing his director\u2019s cut of Justice League<\/em> and Warner Bros. is doing its own thing with the DCEU these days. Cavill\u2019s days in the role of Superman are numbered, too, as Warner\u00a0Bros. recently announced a separate Superman reboot<\/a> to be written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by J. J. Abrams.<\/p>\n

All four glorious hours of Zack Snyder\u2019s Justice League<\/em> are available to watch on HBO Max now. The new cut has been praised for exemplifying the director\u2019s vision and improving the characterization of the iconic heroes, although the runtime has understandably rubbed some critics the wrong way.<\/p>\n
