The\u00a0<\/strong>Star Wars<\/strong><\/em><\/a> saga\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is known for its rich cast of characters, including those in smaller supporting roles. One such character is rebel pilot Wedge Antilles, who made his first appearance as one of the only surviving x-wing pilots in\u00a0Star Wars: Episode IV \u2013 A New Hope<\/i>.\u00a0<\/em>However, as one fan points out, the character’s on-screen portrayal has a much more complicated history than one might\u00a0expect.<\/p>\n

On the official Star Wars <\/em>subreddit, user VillianM<\/em> posted a graphic that details the confusing journey behind Wedge Antilles’ on-screen portrayal. According to the graphic, Wedge was initially played by British actor Colin Higgins, who you can still see during the Death Star briefing scene in A\u00a0New Hope<\/i>\u00a0(he’s the pilot\u00a0that Luke brags to about\u00a0bulls-eying\u00a0womp rats in his T-16). However, Star Wars<\/em> creator George Lucas<\/a> wanted Wedge to have an American accent, so actor David Ankrum was brought in to dub Higgins’ lines. Higgins was later fired because\u00a0he apparently couldn’t remember his lines, so British actor Denis Lawson was brought in to be the face of Wedge during the famous Death Star trench run, but Ankrum still provided the voice via dubbing.<\/p>\n

After\u00a0A New Hope,\u00a0<\/em>Lawson was eager to reprise the\u00a0role, so he worked on his American accent and was hired to portray Wedge in the subsequent films\u00a0The Empire Strikes Back<\/em> and Return of the Jedi.\u00a0<\/em>Even though Lawson had secured the role, Ankrum was eventually brought back to voice Wedge in a brief scene in the 2016 spin-off film\u00a0Rogue One: A Star Wars Story<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<\/i>where you can hear his voice over an intercom. Wedge also had a small role in the animated television series Star Wars Rebels<\/em>, where his facial features were designed after Lawson, but his voice was portrayed by yet another actor, Nathan Kress.\u00a0Lawson would\u00a0eventually reprise the role in a brief cameo in the final film of the Star Wars s<\/em>equel trilogy<\/a>,\u00a0The Rise of Skywalker.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
