It seems sometimes that PS Plus<\/strong> enters and exits periods of patterns. For example, from the end of 2019 through early 2020, fans could easily expect one big AAA game and one smaller, more niche game. This all went out the window when PS Plus was used to ramp up PS5 hype<\/a>, but that train hasn’t slowed down either. However, it does seem PS Plus is settling into a nice little pattern for now.<\/p>\n

One really only needs to look at the list of games made available since January 2021 to develop expectations. Of course, these should always be kept in check, but unlike some months, PS Plus<\/a> subscribers can probably rely on Sony sticking to this pattern.<\/p>\n

First off, fans already know Oddworld: Soulstorm<\/em> will be launching on PS Plus<\/a>. It releases April 6 and the PS5 version of the game will be filling in the consistent “two month slot” that PS Plus has featured since November. It went from offering Bugsnax<\/em> to Destruction AllStars<\/em> to Oddworld: Soulstorm<\/em> being available during April and June. Notably, this is probably due to the fact that many are still picking up PS5s, as almost every restock still sells out in the matter of minutes. While those who do get a PS5 during April have missed out on two games so far, it’s nice to see that “late” comers are not being forgotten.<\/p>\n

Oddworld: Soulstorm<\/em> is the latest addition to an age-old platform franchise. It is both a “re-imagining” of 1998’s Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus<\/em> and sequel to 2014’s Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty!\u00a0<\/em>Overall, it’s both a classic and brand new experience for many PS5 adopters.<\/p>\n

The rest is a little harder to pin down and nowhere near exactly, no matter what’s on one’s PS Plus Wish List<\/a>. In broad strokes though, every month since January 2021 has fit a few identifiable patterns. First off, it seems the days of 2 games every month are gone. That’s not to say they’re coming back, but while this pattern remains consistent, fans can expect 3-4 games in addition to the aforementioned Oddworld<\/em>. That’s without even mentioning the additional Play at Home Initiative, which has a ton of free games<\/a> up for grabs right now.<\/p>\n

Secondly, at least one of those games will be for the PS5 specifically. Not counting the free two month games, there has been one available for every month: Maneater<\/em> for January, Control<\/em> for February, and\u00a0Maquette<\/em> for March<\/a>. It remains to be seen what arrives in April, but fans can count on at least one additional PS5 game.<\/p>\n

Beyond, there’s the nature of the games themselves. It seems instead of aiming for one big game, one small game as it has in the past, PS Plus is throwing a wide variety of games<\/a> at subscribers. March alone, for example, saw an action-RPG, a VR game, a puzzle game, and a third-person soulslike shooter join the service. That’s not to say that fans should expect another VR game as welcome as that would be, but that fans who dabble in multiple genres will reap the most benefit.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, it all does all remain to be seen. While fans should not overhype themselves, the best expectation fans can have is yet another good month of free PS Plus games<\/a>.<\/p>\n
