The full cast list for the Disney Plus limited series\u00a0Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>has been revealed. Disney officially confirmed the news along with the announcement that production will begin in April 2021.\u00a0According to \u00a0the official release, \u201cThe story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith<\/em> where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prequel actors Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen were\u00a0already been confirmed to be reprising their roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker\/Darth Vader<\/a>, and\u00a0Game of Thrones\u00a0<\/em>actress\u00a0Indira Varma was also previously rumored to be appearing in a mystery role. Now Disney Plus has revealed\u00a0the rest of the cast which features\u00a0some\u00a0other familiar faces, as well as\u00a0some newcomers to the Star Wars<\/em> galaxy.\u00a0The rest of\u00a0the cast includes Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, O\u2019Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.<\/p>\n

Edgerton and Piesse are likely reprising\u00a0their roles as Owen and Beru Lars, who they first portrayed\u00a0in the prequel film <\/a>Star Wars – Episode\u00a0II: Attack of the Clones<\/em>\u00a0and then again briefly\u00a0at the end of\u00a0Revenge of the Sith<\/em>. Fans will remember Owen and Beru as Luke Skywalker\u2019s Aunt and Uncle from the original trilogy, who tragically met their fate at the hands of the Empire in Star Wars – Episode IV:\u00a0A New Hope<\/em>.\u00a0It\u2019s unclear as to who the other cast members will be playing in this series, but it\u2019s certainly a stacked list of all-star talent<\/a>. Kumail Nanjiani of HBO\u2019s\u00a0Silicon Valley<\/em>\u00a0is also set to play a leading role in the Marvel superhero movie\u00a0Eternals<\/em>\u00a0later this year. Other big names include\u00a0O\u2019Shea Jackson Jr., who portrayed his father Ice Cube in the Oscar-nominated\u00a0music biopic Straight Outta Compton<\/em>, Sung Kang, who\u2019s known as\u00a0fan-favorite Han in the Fast\u00a0and the Furious\u00a0<\/em>franchise, and\u00a0Benny Safdie of the\u00a0Uncut Gems<\/em>\u00a0directing duo known as the Sadie Brothers.<\/p>\n

With the confirmation that Owen and Beru will be featured in Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>,\u00a0this could mean that we\u2019ll see a young Luke Skywalker in this series<\/a>. While it\u2019s implied in A New Hope <\/em>that Luke and Obi-Wan don\u2019t really have a relationship prior to that film, it\u2019s not impossible for them to have met at a previous time. Luke would be about 9 or 10 years old (about the same age as Anakin in The Phantom Menace)\u00a0<\/em>depending on when exactly the series takes place, so a young actor portraying the hero\u00a0seems\u00a0plausible. However, it\u2019s also implied in\u00a0A New Hope\u00a0<\/em>that Owen Lars has made a conscious effort to keep Obi-Wan away from Luke, so we may get greater context of their conflicted\u00a0relationship in the series.<\/p>\n

Along with the casting news, Disney has announced that production on the series will officially begin next month. LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy had previously stated during Disney\u2019s investor day that production would begin in March of 2021<\/a>, but that was likely pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>\u00a0is directed by Deborah Chow, who directed\u00a0two episodes from season 1<\/a> of\u00a0The Mandalorian,\u00a0<\/em>executive produced by Kathleen Kennedy and written by Joey Harold.<\/p>\n

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/strong> <\/em>will be available exclusively on Disney Plus in 2022.<\/p>\n
