Games publisher Nexon<\/strong> has built itself a reputation in the online gaming market over the years, helping to distribute titles like\u00a0KartRider: Drift, Maple Story,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Godzilla: Defense Force.\u00a0<\/em>Today, it was revealed that the company is looking to invest significant funds into a variety of popular\u00a0entertainment\u00a0companies,\u00a0funding Konami<\/a>,\u00a0Sega Sammy,\u00a0Bandai Namco, and Hasbro.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0spotted by VentureBeat, the\u00a0company has stated that a sum of $874 million has been invested into the four companies, with Nexon<\/a> allegedly hoping to continue funding\u00a0other major names in the months to come. The thought process behind the decision isn’t to acquire any of these companies but instead to offer “long-term, friendly investments,” with\u00a0a statement on the company’s website\u00a0revealing that\u00a0the publisher picked them due to their “ability to develop and sustain strong globally recognized intellectual property.”<\/p>\n

More investments could be on the way following the news, with Nexon\u00a0allegedly\u00a0setting aside\u00a0$1.5 billion for similar transactions in the future. Although the publisher has made it clear that it didn’t use the investments as an attempt to partner with the companies, Nexon’s statement reveals that it\u00a0has had discussions\u00a0with the recipients of the funding.<\/p>\n

The slate of companies\u00a0selected\u00a0for investments\u00a0are definitely interesting choices. Konami has largely avoided the spotlight in recent years, opting to focus on Pachinko machines and mobile games\u00a0rather than developing new entries for its\u00a0iconic video game licenses, which include the likes of\u00a0Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Castlevania<\/em>. There have been an array of rumors indicating that it’s returning to\u00a0Silent Hill\u00a0<\/em>in the future<\/a>, although nothing has been confirmed. On the other hand, Sega continues to be a huge name in the gaming scene, publishing\u00a0Yakuza: Like a Dragon\u00a0<\/em>last year and getting ready to launch\u00a0Total War: Warhammer 2\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Total War: Rome Remastered\u00a0<\/em>this year.<\/p>\n

Bandai Namco remains a significant publisher as well, finding major success already\u00a0in 2021\u00a0with\u00a0Little Nightmares 2,\u00a0<\/em>which has amassed over 1 million copies sold in over a month<\/a>. The company is prepping a stacked lineup of titles this year, including\u00a0Digimon\u00a0Survive, The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0The Last Kids on Earth and The Staff of Doom.\u00a0<\/em>It will also distribute FromSoftware’s highly-anticipated next release,\u00a0Elden Ring.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Hasbro\u00a0continues to be a hugely popular toy brand that\u00a0works with significant gaming IPs. It recently signed a new deal with Epic Games<\/a> and\u00a0is currently selling\u00a0a line of\u00a0Halo\u00a0<\/em>NERF guns to correspond with the upcoming release of\u00a0Halo Infinite.\u00a0<\/em>It’ll be intriguing to see what Nexon’s investments mean for the future of the company and what it will fund in the months to come.<\/p>\n
