Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man<\/strong> <\/em>delivered in every possible way when it released back in 2018, giving fans a version of the webslinger that was a blast to play and watch in cutscenes. Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/em> only expanded on the first game\u2019s strengths, introducing a new webslinger with unique powers while also trimming the open world\u2019s fat<\/a> so that everything was worth doing. While the upcoming sequel will likely be another excellent Spider-Man adventure, it could be different from the others in one key way.<\/p>\n

Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man<\/a> 2<\/em> will surely have some obvious changes due to its role as a sequel, ranging from new villains like Venom and Lizard to new collectibles to track down in the open world. Players can expect new suits and collectibles as well, with Insomniac surely having some other surprises in store for fans. However, a far bigger difference could see players limited when it comes to where exactly they play Peter and Miles\u2019 next game.<\/p>\n

With Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man 2<\/em> not currently announced, it would be safe to assume that the game is far off from its release \u2014 likely eyeing up a release window of 2022 or 2023. Further, Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal<\/a> has not recorded any of his dialogue for the sequel, all but ensuring that the game is still in the early stages of development. While this obviously means that players will need to stay patient for a long while, another potential consequence is that the game will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive.<\/p>\n

With games like the\u00a0God of War <\/em>sequel<\/a> possibly being PS5-only, it seems likely that exclusive titles releasing a few years down the road will only be playable on the latest platform. With every passing month that nothing official is said regarding the sequel, it seems increasingly likely that a cross-gen release does not happen. While Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man<\/em> and Spider-Man: Miles Morales<\/em> were both on PS4 and PS5, there seems to be a decent chance that their follow-up could not be.<\/p>\n

While this has its downside, as it forces players on last-gen consoles to get a PS5 so they can play the game, it also means that Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man 2<\/em> can take full advantage of the console\u2019s features. Full ray tracing, improved graphical power, and even smoother gameplay are all possible. Character models will likely look more realistic, while Spider-Man\u2019s alternate costumes<\/a> would be even more stunning visually. With Insomniac focused on the one platform, more tome can be put into using the DualSense controller\u2019s features to their fullest extent as well. With the PS4 not holding Insomniac back, Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man 2<\/em> could be a hugely impressive sequel.<\/p>\n

Another big change is that the sequel will likely have two playable characters at the very least. With two active Spider-Men, Insomniac has the freedom to use both often, switching between the heroes for different story and side missions. Getting their two different playstyles in the same game would be a blast, while the story potential that comes from their partnership is a big deal as well. With a third playable character<\/a> also possible, players can expect more variety from the next entry in the series. Other likely changes include fresh activity types in the open world, brand new suits that did not appear in the previous games, and some new animations for both Miles Morales and Peter Parker.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that this is all purely speculation, as nothing about the next Marvel’s<\/em>\u00a0Spider-Man<\/em> game is officially confirmed by Sony or Insomniac. However, much like the involvement of Venom<\/a>, it seems likely that players will see the game serving as a full PS5 exclusive. While there is certainly potential for Insomniac to surprise fans with a cross-gen title that only focuses on Peter Parker, all the signs seem to point to the studio doing something fresh instead. As such, while fans can not be sure of anything just yet, it is possible to make a few educated guesses based on the little that is known about the game right now.<\/p>\n

Marvel’s Spider-Man<\/em><\/strong> and Spider-Man: Miles Morales are available now on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. A sequel has yet to be officially announced.<\/p>\n
