Polish video game developer CD Projekt Red<\/strong> is expanding its roots with the acquisition of a new studio that will help its existing studios with upcoming projects. This new piece of information comes\u00a0just a day after the company released a hefty patch for its latest release,\u00a0Cyberpunk 2077<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Cyberpunk 2077<\/em> launched with a plethora of game-breaking issues<\/a> last December. Since then, CD Projekt Red<\/a> has been hard at work on fixing the game’s various bugs and further optimizing the game’s performance on various platforms. Interestingly, aside from fixing its latest release, the company has also been working to acquire the Canada-based game development studio Digital Scapes.<\/p>\n

CD Projekt announced the\u00a0acquisition news via its official website earlier today. Digital Scapes, as it seems, is the foundation of CD Projekt Red’s fourth development team labeled as CD Projekt Red Vancouver. According to the PR, the studio will join the company’s other development teams, based in Warsaw, Krakow and Wroc\u0142aw, to “jointly work on the Studio\u2019s upcoming projects<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

The press release also mentions how Digital Scapes is CD Projekt Red’s “trusted partner,” and that both companies have been working for the last three years on Cyberpunk 2077<\/em>. Although there’s no confirmation on what the Vancouver team is currently working on,\u00a0Digital Scapes’ official website seems to indicate that it’s working on the\u00a0multiplayer mode\u00a0for\u00a0Cyberpunk 2077<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although CD Projekt Red has shipped The Witcher 3<\/em> and Cyberpunk 2077<\/em><\/a>, two massive open-world AAA\u00a0titles in the past few years, it is still a relatively small company.\u00a0Its home office in Warsaw has over 550 employees, whereas its Krakow and Wroclaw office has 70 and 18 employees, respectively. Having a fourth development studio could ease up the development process a bit\u00a0and presumably, reduce the achingly long time between its releases.<\/p>\n

As of now, CD Projekt Red has its hands full with planning and releasing post-launch content for Cyberpunk 2077<\/em><\/a>. Although a commercial success, Cyberpunk 2077<\/em> hasn’t fared well with its fans\u00a0due to\u00a0massive performance and optimization issues. Fortunately, CD Projekt Red just released a 40 GB patch 1.2 that seems to have fixed some of the visuals, gameplay, quests, and performance issues.<\/p>\n

While the latest patch seems like a step in the right direction, it also\u00a0adds\u00a0some unwanted issues. The update has been the most problematic for Cyberpunk 2077’s<\/em> PC players, with many users reporting massive dips in performance<\/a>. CD Projekt Red has yet to address this new issue, however, given how the company’s dedicated to fixing the game, this will likely be handled sooner or later.<\/p>\n
