Mario has always been the clear-cut\u00a0choice for the face of Nintendo&#8217;s brand, with the second-place spot being hotly contended between\u00a0numerous possible candidates. Today, however, fans declared that <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/kirby\/\">Kirby<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>should be\u00a0heir apparent\u00a0to become the company&#8217;s mascot.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the\u00a0anniversary celebration, Nintendo managed to give many fans what they wanted, but when the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-marios-35th-anniversary-end-when-allstars\/\">anniversary ended and popular games\u00a0were delisted<\/a>,\u00a0Nintendo received a\u00a0lot of backlash. In fact, fans were so upset by the removal of\u00a0<em>Super Mario 3D All-Stars,\u00a0<\/em>a collection of <em>Super Mario 64<\/em>, <em>Galaxy<\/em>, and <em>Sunshine,<\/em>\u00a0that many took to Twitter to get\u00a0#KirbyNintendoMascot trending in an effort to replace Mario as the face of the company following his &#8220;death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-kirby-2021-announcements-tease\/\">Nintendo Teases New Kirby Announcements In 2021<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While Link appeared to be an obvious choice, with\u00a0<em>Breath of the Wild<\/em> being one of Nintendo&#8217;s most popular releases of all time, or\u00a0Samus could be good given she is backed by the enduring power of the\u00a0<em>Metroid<\/em> franchise, fans on Twitter apparently decided that Nintendo\u00a0was better suited with a more kid-friendly mascot. Kirby is the type of character who\u00a0could be <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/massive-kirby-plush-revealed\/\">made seamlessly into a huggable plush<\/a>. With their choice made and hashtag ready to go, fans took social media by storm, sharing their favorite memes and images of Kirby.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AGearox\/status\/1377294082255491102\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/awesomec26\/status\/1377253246952169476\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The images shared range from impromptu shots of Kirby plushies\u00a0pitted against Mario ones to time-tested memes, and even screenshots taken from a myriad of different <em>Kirby<\/em> titles. While the movement is mostly light-hearted fun, hidden among the frenzy is a reminder of the\u00a0undeniable momentum\u00a0that can be\u00a0generated by Nintendo fans.\u00a0It has been a running joke that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mario-death-march-31\/\">Mario would die on March 31<\/a>, and at least for today, it seems like he has for many fans. With April Fool&#8217;s Day just around the corner, Nintendo could potentially play with this momentum in a number of ways, though it&#8217;s unclear how self-aware the company is willing to be in this regard. Despite the zealous effort behind the #KirbyNintendoMascot hashtag, it&#8217;s unlikely Mario will ever be\u00a0replaced by Kirby\u00a0as <strong>Nintendo<\/strong>&#8216;s official mascot.
