Between <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shin Megami Tensei If\u2026 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DemiKids<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this wasn\u2019t exactly novel, but <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">saw success and tonally pivoted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which is arguably why <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ended up such a success in the first place. On a mechanical level, the game really is more of the same \u2013 the fundamental gameplay changes being the addition of party control and more traditional level design. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bolsters the core of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 3 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">while repackaging the experience into a more approachable RPG all around.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-4-golden-pc-mods\/\">Persona 4 Golden PC Mods We Want to See<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One such way <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">softens its appeal is through its party members. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P3<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s cast were written as if they were real, nuanced teenagers \u2013 not everyone in the cast liked each other &amp; relationships had to naturally build. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on the other hand, features a tight knit cast of genuinely close friends. They don\u2019t have the same drama as SEES and they\u2019re a\u00a0stronger group for it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s party is also much smaller than <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 3<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s, which naturally has gameplay consequences. Party members are on the whole more versatile, and in-turn more useful. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has an incredibly tight\u00a0knit party where every character shines, but some party members are better than others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Updated on April 1, 2021 by Renan Fontes:\u00a0<\/strong>Stats plays a key role in any RPG, but players have no control over how their party members grow in Persona 4. Every member of the Investigation Team has their own unique growths, realizing their full potential at max level. While some characters have surprisingly\u00a0high stats when leveled up, Persona 4 places emphasis on skills and smart strategies above all else. The party members with the highest stats may not necessarily\u00a0be the strongest at the end of the day \u2013 but that obviously isn&#8217;t the case for everybody.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Teddie<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Teddie.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teddie is far and away <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s worst party member, but he\u2019s not useless by any means. Should players fail to max out a single Social Link with their party members, Teddie\u2019s plot mandated S. Link will ultimately result in his Persona evolving. If nothing else, this ensures the party isn\u2019t totally deprived of Ultimate Personas for the endgame.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HP: 515<\/li>\n<li>SP: 491<\/li>\n<li>STR: 61<\/li>\n<li>MAG: 75<\/li>\n<li>END: 55<\/li>\n<li>AGL: 63<\/li>\n<li>LCK: 50<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, Teddie is outdone by just about every other party member. His Bufu spells are admittedly stronger than Chie\u2019s, but her HP based attacks outdo any of Teddie\u2019s magic. Likewise, his healing is\u00a0ultimately matched by Yosuke and outright humiliated by Yukiko. Kanji is a better tank, Naoto is better for random encounters, and Yu is more well rounded. If nothing else, Teddie\u2019s buffs are always helpful.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Kanji Tatsumi\u00a0<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Kanji.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All things considered, Kanji starts fairly strong and it\u2019s not unusual for players to replace Chie with Kanji. As Chie does fall out for a bid during the mid-game, this isn\u2019t a bad idea in practice, but it can have unfortunate consequences once Kanji starts to fall off \u2013 and does he ever fall off. Even Kanji\u2019s new skills in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Golden <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">couldn\u2019t save him from his fate. At best, he&#8217;s a damage sponge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HP: 749<\/li>\n<li>SP: 253<\/li>\n<li>STR: 94<\/li>\n<li>MAG: 34<\/li>\n<li>END: 81<\/li>\n<li>AGL: 59<\/li>\n<li>LCK: 36<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-5-royal-dd-moral-alignments-main-characters\/\">Persona 5 Royal: The D&amp;D Moral Alignments Of The Main Characters<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Kanji is strong, he\u2019s lacking mostly elsewhere. His magic doesn\u2019t hit hard, his healing is mediocre, and getting him Power Charge requires doing his Social Link whereas Chie gets hers by naturally leveling (Lv. 52). By endgame, Chie will <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">always <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hit harder than Kanji. Kanji\u2019s useful for anyone struggling early on, but ultimately a poor man\u2019s Chie. What&#8217;s the point of high stats without useful skills?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Naoto Shirogane\u00a0<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Naoto.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As far as random encounters are concerned, Naoto is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s best party member. Her Almighty skills will wipe out most enemies with ease, and her Hama &amp; Mudo skills make endgame dungeon crawling a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">breeze<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In the vanilla release, this was likewise Naoto\u2019s greatest weakness as Almighty, Hama, &amp; Mudo skills are useless against bosses wholesale.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HP: 527<\/li>\n<li>SP: 454<\/li>\n<li>STR: 66<\/li>\n<li>MAG: 69<\/li>\n<li>END: 47<\/li>\n<li>AGL: 72<\/li>\n<li>LCK: 50<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Golden <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gives Naoto access to both Bufudyne and Ziodyne, she makes an excellent elec caster in light of Kanji\u2019s lack of magical aptitude \u2013\u00a0especially when paired with Mind Charge from her Social Link. That said, it does take effort to build Naoto into a party member worth taking to boss fights. Her stats are well rounded, but without any clear advantages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Chie Satonaka<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Chie.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chie starts strong enough where she\u2019ll likely be out damaging both Yosuke and Yu for a decent bit of time. While it doesn\u2019t take long for Kanji to present a better alternative, it should be noted that this is something of a trap. Even though Chie struggles for a bit come mid-game, she will even herself out relatively fast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HP: 614<\/li>\n<li>SP: 298<\/li>\n<li>STR: 71<\/li>\n<li>MAG: 57<\/li>\n<li>END: 51<\/li>\n<li>AGL: 71<\/li>\n<li>LKC: 53<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-4-school-quiz-answer\/\">All Persona 4 Golden School Quiz Answers<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By the time Chie gets Power Charge, she\u2019s basically set for the rest of the game. Kanji simply won\u2019t be able to keep up even with his higher stats. With God Hand and Agneyastra rounding her physical skills out, Chie is bound to be any party\u2019s heaviest hitter once they\u2019re in their late 70s. That said, Chie has exceptionally poor magic, with her best magical skill \u2013\u00a0Bufula \u2013 locked behind her Social Link.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Yukiko Amagi<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/6-Yukiko-Amagi.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the party\u2019s dedicated healer, Yukiko fills an extremely important\u00a0role no other character can really fill. Other party members can pick up the slack situationally, but Yukiko is the party\u2019s all-purpose healer. She\u2019s also extremely skilled when it comes to magic, laying waste to most enemies with her Agi skills and\u00a0becoming one of the party&#8217;s highest damage dealers by endgame.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HP: 508<\/li>\n<li>SP: 528<\/li>\n<li>STR: 38<\/li>\n<li>MAG: 88<\/li>\n<li>END: 58<\/li>\n<li>AGL: 60<\/li>\n<li>LCK: 60<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yukiko\u2019s greatest weakness in the vanilla release was a suspicious lack of Mind Charge, but <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Golden <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rightfully gives her the skill \u2013 albeit locked as her very last bike skill. That said, it\u2019s not as if Yukiko was ever useless. Her magic stat is high enough to keep her viable without Mind Charge, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Golden <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">just makes her even better. Pairing the highest SP in the game with a whopping 88 Magic turns Yukiko into an utter monster.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Yosuke Hanamura<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Yosuke.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yosuke is the most well rounded party member in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">other than the protagonist himself. As far as stats go, he\u2019s balanced across the board, albeit prioritizing agility\u00a0and strength above all else. His physical attacks hit hard, his magic hits harder, and his healing makes for an excellent safety net\u2013 especially since he gets Diarahan in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Golden<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HP: 574<\/li>\n<li>SP: 409<\/li>\n<li>STR: 72<\/li>\n<li>MAG: 69<\/li>\n<li>END: 68<\/li>\n<li>AGL: 70<\/li>\n<li>LCK: 35<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rounding off his offensive skills, magic, and healing are Yosuke\u2019s buffs. Notably, Masukukaja buffs the party\u2019s agility &amp; evasion, arguably the most useful all-party buff in the game.Yosuke has no real gameplay flaws when it comes down to it.\u00a0His Social Link skills admittedly aren\u2019t that great, but he\u2019s all around the best party member in the game. Other than the main character, that is.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Yu Narukami<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Persona-4-Golden-Yu-Narukami-Calender-Art.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps it\u2019s a bit obvious, but Yu Narukami is far and away the best party member in the game. He almost has to be considering he\u2019s the only playable character that can never be removed from the party. He serves as the player\u2019s stand-in, actually unnamed in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">proper. Like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 3<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s main character, Yu can change his Persona at will, giving players quite a bit of gameplay variety.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Yu has so many options at his disposal, he can reliably fill any role in the party\u2013\u00a0arguably better than his party members in most cases. Being able to switch Personas in-battle also allows for Yu to prepare for just about any situation\u2013 especially come mid-game when he can hold onto quite a number of different Personas. While Yu&#8217;s stats are Persona dependant, his\u00a0health and mana pool aren&#8217;t.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HP: 585<\/li>\n<li>SP: 372<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persona 4 Golden <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">making Persona Fusion easier than ever (outright allowing players to pick &amp; choose which abilities to pass down), Yu can be turned into an absolute beast.
