Where <\/span>Persona 3 <\/span><\/a>was a dark, moody story about not only the nature of life & death but what it means to be alive and have lived, <\/span>Persona 4 <\/span><\/a>chose to take a step back and embrace a lighter tone atypical for both the <\/span>Persona <\/span><\/i>sub-series and the <\/span>Shin Megami Tensei <\/span><\/a>franchise from which it originally spun off of. Between <\/span>Shin Megami Tensei If\u2026 <\/span>and <\/span>DemiKids<\/span>, this wasn\u2019t exactly novel, but <\/span>Persona 4 <\/span>saw success and tonally pivoted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Which is arguably why <\/span>Persona 4 <\/span>ended up such a success in the first place. On a mechanical level, the game really is more of the same \u2013 the fundamental gameplay changes being the addition of party control and more traditional level design. <\/span>Persona 4 <\/span>bolsters the core of <\/span>Persona 3 <\/span>while repackaging the experience into a more approachable RPG all around.<\/span><\/p>\n

One such way <\/span>Persona 4 <\/span>softens its appeal is through its party members. <\/span>P3<\/span>\u2019s cast were written as if they were real, nuanced teenagers \u2013 not everyone in the cast liked each other & relationships had to naturally build. <\/span>Persona 4<\/span>, on the other hand, features a tight knit cast of genuinely close friends. They don\u2019t have the same drama as SEES and they\u2019re a\u00a0stronger group for it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Persona 4<\/span>\u2019s party is also much smaller than <\/span>Persona 3<\/span>\u2019s, which naturally has gameplay consequences. Party members are on the whole more versatile, and in-turn more useful. <\/span>Persona 4 <\/span>has an incredibly tight\u00a0knit party where every character shines, but some party members are better than others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every member of the Investigation Team has their own unique growths, realizing their full potential at max level. While some characters have surprisingly\u00a0high stats when leveled up, Persona 4 places emphasis on skills and smart strategies above all else. The party members with the highest stats may not necessarily\u00a0be the strongest at the end of the day \u2013 but that obviously isn’t the case for everybody.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Teddie<\/h2>\n

Teddie is far and away <\/span>Persona 4<\/span>\u2019s worst party member, but he\u2019s not useless by any means. Should players fail to max out a single Social Link with their party members, Teddie\u2019s plot mandated S. Link will ultimately result in his Persona evolving. If nothing else, this ensures the party isn\u2019t totally deprived of Ultimate Personas for the endgame.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
