PUBG Lite<\/strong><\/em>, a free-to-play, low-requirement alternative to the smash-hit battle royale, will be shutting down towards the end of next month, on April 29th. The launch of\u00a0PUBG Lite<\/a><\/em> back in 2019 was intended to bring the beloved title to fans with lower-end PCs.<\/p>\n

While it eventually made its way to Europe after the 2019 beta in Thailand,\u00a0PUBG Lite<\/em> never managed to catch on quite the way other iterations of the title have. As interest in the game waned, Krafton\u2014the developers\u2014made the decision to pull the plug.<\/p>\n

Krafton did not offer an official reason alongside the announcement, but with PUBG Mobile<\/em>\u00a0more or less\u00a0supplanting the need for a low-spec PC version, Krafton likely discovered that\u00a0PUBG Lite<\/em> simply couldn’t capture the market in the way it intended. At over a billion downloads<\/a>,\u00a0PUBG Mobile<\/em>\u00a0already\u00a0<\/em>boasts the sort of global appeal that captures those players unable to\u00a0run\u00a0the full desktop version.<\/p>\n

As PUBG Lite<\/em> is closed down, players can still look forward to the company’s upcoming titles.\u00a0In fact, in light of the success of\u00a0PUBG Mobile<\/em>, the publishers recently announced a new, futuristic mobile game in the series, PUBG: New State<\/em>. While\u00a0PUBG Lite<\/em>\u00a0will ultimately go down as a rare miss for the company, even the upcoming\u00a0New State<\/em>\u00a0must bring\u00a0something fresh<\/a>\u00a0or risk oversaturating the market. In an\u00a0effort to go an entirely different direction, Tencent\u2014the developers on\u00a0PUBG Mobile<\/em>\u2014are working on a co-op zombie survival title called Undawn<\/em> that is expected to release later this year.<\/p>\n

PUBG Lite<\/strong><\/em> will be available on PC until April 29th.<\/p>\n
