Astral Chain<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is an action-adventure, hack and slash video game that came out on the Nintendo Switch in August 2019. Developed by PlatinumGames<\/a> and published by Nintendo themselves, the game follows the Neuron special police task force as they protect their dystopian world, the Ark, from Chimeras,\u00a0interdimensional creatures. The player controls one of the twin recruits who uses an X-Baton as a weapon (that can transform into a Baton, Blaster, or Gladius) and commands a Legion, a tamed Chimera (that has five types: Sword, Arrow, Arm, Beast, and Axe).<\/p>\n

The game allows the player to customize their appearance too. They can change their hair, eyes, skin, and more, as well as their\u00a0clothing and accessories. The player can unlock four different costumes too, which are special sets that alter the character head to toe…but it will not be easy.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>The Drab Civvies Costume<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

In the game,\u00a0there are\u00a011 mandatory chapters, referred to as “Files.”\u00a0While some have the player playing detective, others have them ripping and tearing through hordes of bad guys<\/a> with their Legion. In File 10, titled “Madness,” they can unlock the Drab Civvies costume, which makes them look like a civilian.<\/p>\n

All the player has to do is speak with\u00a0Hal (real name\u00a0Harold Clark), the robot, at Neuron HQ. That’s all. He is the\u00a0ace programmer at Neuron’s technical division who interacts with others solely through a drone (that can talk).<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>The ARI Medical Gear Costume<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Throughout the Ark, just like Planet Earth, there are toilets of all different shapes and sizes scattered about<\/a>.\u00a0And just like the ones on Planet Earth, the toilets in the Ark have a use. They increase the player’s grade at the end of the File but most importantly they give the player toilet paper that may be exchanged for Material Code (used to upgrade weapons and Legions) through Bel, the fairy who lives in the stall at Neuron HQ.<\/p>\n

That’s not all! Finding every toilet in the game unlocks the ARI Medical Gear costume. (There’s 12.)<\/p>\n

From the beginning! The first one is in the restroom at Neuron HQ. The second toilet is next to the truck (outside the barrier) where the player rescues a bystander during the tutorial in File 1. The third one is in the underground garage (under the door) in File 2, accessible after they complete the investigation. The fourth toilet is in an alley with a green garbage truck (also under a door following the player finishes the\u00a0investigation) in File 3. The fifth one is in the mall in File 4; it is on the second floor, past the tentacles. The sixth toilet is on the second floor during the Uproar part of File 5 after they save a couple of civilians.<\/p>\n

Moving on! The seventh one (an overlook of a hermit on a toilet) is behind a vent in the ducts after the player does the segment featuring the Beast Legion. The eighth toilet is in File 7; they find it after climbing up a ladder (using the Arrow Legion) near the building where the Homunculus is chilling. The ninth one is found during the bridge part in File 8 on the Rayleigh Plaza Roof, using the floating platforms. The tenth toilet is past the construction area by the Harmony Medical Center in File 9. The eleventh one is in the drain in the center of the Ark Sewer Management area in File 10. The twelfth toilet is in the ARI Redshift Lab (down the stairs at the entrance) in File 11.<\/p>\n

If the player hands over all the toilet paper (12 pieces) to Bel, she gives them the costume…a fair trade.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>The Lappy Suit Costume<\/h2>\n

Every law and order organization dedicated to the safety and health of the public needs a mascot. The Ark Police Force has Lappy. He is a yellow dog (Labrador, to be specific) that wears big white gloves and a huge blue police hat marked with the letter “P” (for police, of course). Lappy’s tongue always hangs out and he dons a red collar as well as a black sash.<\/p>\n

Marie Wentz, a former\u00a0police officer in the traffic enforcement department but a current member of the Neuron Task Force, plays Lappy (when she is not doing menial jobs to help\u00a0the protagonist fight Chimeras and save the world). Marie keeps her identity as Lappy a secret but all of the officers know it is her under the suit yet happily play along.<\/p>\n

The player can actually be Lappy too. They unlock the Lappy Suit as a costume in parts; there is a Lappy Badge, Lappy Arms, Lappy Wisdom, Lappy Legs, Lappy Body, and Lappy Head. The\u00a0Lappy Badge is unlocked in File 3 after the player visits all of Neuron’s facilities (marked with blue squares on the IRIS map). The Lappy Arms is unlocked in File 5 after they speak with Marie and defeat\u00a0JinWong in simulated combat. The\u00a0Lappy Wisdom is unlocked in File 7 just by the player talking to Lappy. The\u00a0Lappy Legs are unlocked in File 8 after they play and win the minigame Lappy’s Balloon Bash for the first time. The\u00a0Lappy Body is unlocked in File 8 after the player speaks with Lappy and takes his quiz, achieving a score of 40 or more. The\u00a0Lappy Head is unlocked in File 12 simply through them buying it from Brenda Moreno.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>The Raven Armor Costume<\/h2>\n

There is a hidden chapter after the eleventh one, called File 12,\u00a0that is optional and essentially the epilogue\u00a0after completing the campaign. After the player beats\u00a0File 11, they must\u00a0save the game during the end credits and then exit to the main menu and load it back up. Upon entering the world once again, the player will find themselves in the Neuron HQ. File 12 begins.<\/p>\n

Now, if they talk to Olive Espinosa, Neuron’s radio operator\/dispatcher, the player will be given more missions, or “cases,” to take on. All of them involve\u00a0getting rid of\u00a0corruption around the Ark and test the player’s combat abilities (seriously). If they finish File 12, the game\u00a0ends (for real, this time).<\/p>\n

One of these cases, R1-B1 ARI, has a sweet reward for closing: Raven Armor. The player will unlock this costume but they need to muscle through Protolegions, Raven Officers, and the special named chimera Agamemnon.<\/p>\n
