The Day Before<\/strong><\/em> is an upcoming open-world multiplayer zombie survival game set in a post-pandemic America. While this isn’t exactly a revolutionary concept, it does appear from the gameplay shown that this is going to be one of the biggest and most detailed entries into the genre yet.<\/p>\n

Part of what makes The Day Before<\/em><\/a> so interesting is that it seems to borrow concepts from quite a few different games and bring them together to form something that seems pretty new. If the game can manage to bring this all together into something that feels cohesive, it could end up being a very healthy marriage between The Last Of Us 2<\/em>, DayZ<\/a>,<\/em> and The Division<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The open-world is a bit of an amalgam of all three of these games, all in different ways. First, in function, it appears to be pretty similar to the open world in DayZ<\/em><\/a>.<\/em> While there’s still not a ton of concrete examples on how exactly the open world is, it seems to be a large area where players can go where they want, scavenging for loot and trying to not get eaten by zombies or murdered by other players and then eaten by zombies along the way. It doesn’t seem to be too similar in the aesthetics though, as there’s a lot of urban sprawl that’s showcased in The Day Before<\/em> as opposed to a lot of nature-type areas with buildings interspersed throughout in DayZ.<\/em><\/p>\n

When it comes to how the open-world feels, it seems to be a pretty straightforward combo of The Division<\/em> and The Last Of Us<\/em>. The world appears to be set in the wintertime, with holiday lights abounding, just like in The Division<\/em>. The city even feels a little bit similar otherwise, in the way the cars are laid out across the street and certain buildings are accessible. Sprinkle in some zombies, and it makes everything feel like a game similar to\u00a0<\/a>The Last of Us 2<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Once again, the combat of The Day Before<\/em><\/a> feels like a mashup of all three of these games. The Division<\/em> and\u00a0TLOU2<\/em>\u00a0are both third-person shooters, and DayZ<\/em> can be either first or third-person depending on which option players choose. While all of these seem similar, the game that appears to have combat with the most in line with is The Division<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Though targets don’t appear to be the bullet sponges that they can be in The Division<\/em><\/a>, it does appear that the game is very focused on using cover, with obvious cover points located around the world, especially so in the city. It’s difficult to tell what combat will be like outside of the city as very little gameplay has been shown in those areas, but it’s possible that it feels different there with the different varieties of cover.<\/p>\n

While the multiplayer aspect or tie-in of The Last Of Us 2<\/em><\/a> is still supposedly still on the way, not much is known about it yet, so it can’t be compared to The Day Befor<\/em>e. Both The Division<\/em> and DayZ<\/em> have heavy PvP elements though, being the last element these games that it appears The Day before<\/em> shares.<\/p>\n

The Division<\/em> has certain PvP areas<\/a> of the game, called Dark Zones, where players can either work together or kill each other in competition for the loot in the area. DayZ<\/em> is a little bit more in line with what it appears The Day Before<\/em> is, with PvP throughout the open-world, so that players never know whether or not another player is lurking around the corner, waiting to turn them into zombie-bait.<\/p>\n

The Day Before\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is currently in development for PC, planned for release in Q2 2021.<\/p>\n
