Last November, Sony released the PlayStation 5 that ushered console gamers to the new generation of gaming. Apart from stock shortages and some minor glitches,\u00a0the launch of the PS5 has mostly been a success<\/a>, which is not surprising given\u00a0Sony’s wide player base. However, the introduction of new hardware also meant that Sony is now pulling some support away from older consoles, specifically the PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. Of course, this could be an issue for some players, especially since the consoles mentioned earlier are considered homes for some of the biggest video game franchises, including\u00a0Resident Evil<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

For 25 years, the Resident Evil<\/em> video game franchise pioneered the survival horror genre<\/a> and produced some of the most iconic video game characters of all time. Of course, given the franchise’s extensive history, there are Resident Evil<\/em> games that\u00a0can only be bought digitally\u00a0on the PlayStation Stores of the PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. With the closure of those stores just around the corner, here are all the Resident Evil<\/em> games that PlayStation players won’t be able to purchase digitally in the future.<\/p>\n

As expected,\u00a0the list of Resident Evil<\/em> games that would no longer be available to purchase digitally on the PlayStation Store includes the first three games in the franchise. Originally released for the PlayStation, Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Resident Evil 2<\/em>, and Resident Evil 3<\/em> are currently available on the PS3 and PS Vita PlayStation Store. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that these games will be ported to the PS4 and PS5 PlayStation Store, so players interested in these classic Resident Evil<\/em> titles should purchase them now while they are still available. Alternatively, all three Resident Evil<\/em> games have all been remade by Capcom<\/a>, and these newer versions are available on the PS4 PlayStation Store.<\/p>\n

Next up is Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City<\/em>, a spin-off game that offers a hypothetical what-if scenario of the Raccoon City incident in Resident Evil 2 and 3.<\/em> Operation Raccoon City<\/em> was first released in 2012 and received a lukewarm reception from fans<\/a>. Last on this list is Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles<\/em> and The Darkside Chronicles<\/em>, which are rail shooting video games that revolve around the events of several mainline Resident Evil<\/em> games from the first up until Resident Evil 4<\/em>. It is worth noting that while Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, The Umbrella Chronicles<\/em>, and The Darkside Chronicles<\/em> will no longer be available on the PlayStation Store soon, all three games can still be played via PS Now.<\/p>\n
