Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, the upcoming reboot of the Resident Evil film franchise, has been delayed. The film was originally scheduled to premiere on September 3 and will now arrive on November 24.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Sony, who is distributing the film, has not\u00a0given a specific reason for the delay. Filming has <\/span><\/span>already wrapped up<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> but <\/span><\/span>Variety<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> points out that September 3 is the same day that Disney\/Marvel\u2019s <\/span><\/span>Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings<\/span><\/span> will hit theaters. There\u2019s a decent chance that, as huge and as popular of a film franchise that Resident Evil is, Sony didn\u2019t want to try its luck against a Marvel joint. That’s all conjecture of course as any number of factors could have played a role.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n As\u00a0<\/span><\/span>previously reported<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span>Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City<\/span><\/span> takes the series back to basics. The film takes place during the events of the first two games and will feature both Spencer Mansion and the Racoon City Police Department. Johannes Roberts (<\/span><\/span>47 Meters Down: Uncaged<\/span><\/span>) sits in the director\u2019s chair and also wrote the film.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The confirmed cast includes:\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Unfortunately, <\/span><\/span>Resident Evil<\/span><\/span> isn\u2019t the only upcoming video game adaptation to hit a snag. Warner Bros. <\/span><\/span>Mortal Kombat <\/span><\/span>was recently delayed too, albeit by <\/span><\/span>only a week<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>. It kind of stinks that Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>won\u2019t be around to enjoy during Halloween season but we\u2019re looking forward to checking it out regardless. Paul W.S. Anderson\u2019s Resident Evil series was primarily defined by explosive action, so to see a film reset and focus more heavily on the horror element sounds refreshing.
