The lawsuit, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-05-06\/sony-sued-for-limiting-purchases-of-games-to-playstation-store?srnd=technology-vp\" rel=\"noopener\" >Bloomberg<\/a>, calls out Sony&rsquo;s decision to limit digital game sales to the PlayStation Store.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"video\">\n<div class=\"video-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/RkC0l4iekYo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RkC0l4iekYo\"  rel=\"noopener\">Watch on YouTube<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit is mainly based on the fact Sony <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2019\/03\/27\/sony-psn-codes-full-games-no-longer-sold-at-retail\/\" >stopped allowing third-party retailers in 2019 &ndash; such as Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart &ndash; to sell full-game download codes<\/a>, leaving customers to only rely on the console&rsquo;s digital store, which is entirely owned and operated by Sony.<\/p>\n<p>This practice, according to the people behind the lawsuit, allows the company to control the price of games, compared to physical games sold at retail. Some end up paying &ldquo;175% more&rdquo; for games on the PlayStation Store compared to retail.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Sony&rsquo;s monopoly allows it to charge supracompetitive prices for digital PlayStation games, which are significantly higher than their physical counterparts sold in a competitive retail market, and significantly higher than they would be in a competitive retail market for digital games,&rdquo; the people said.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s worth noting that this is only a proposed case for now, and may not end up going through.
