At present, it seems the 5nm is too costly (thanks, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/serkantoto\/status\/1390244523712794630\"  rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Serkan Toto<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Again, this would be a spec redesign, not a console redesign. In other words, the console would feature the same performance and same enclosure, it would just be less expensive for Sony to make.<\/p>\n<p>Sony is aiming for production to start on the redesign&nbsp;sometime during Q2 or Q3 2022.<\/p>\n<p>As Toto notes, the site has a spotty track record, so take this as an unconfirmed report for the time being.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s hard finding a PS5 right now, and part of the reason boils down to production. According to Sony CFO, Hiroki Totoki, the company is struggling to keep up with demand.<\/p>\n<p>In the company&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2021\/04\/28\/ps5-7-8-million-shipments-2021\/\">latest call to investors<\/a>, Totoki stated the shortage of semiconductors was &ldquo;one factor,&rdquo; but that there &ldquo;are other factors that will impact the production volume&rdquo; (thanks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t3.com\/news\/sony-plans-ps5-redesign-to-fix-restock-problems\"  rel=\"noopener\">T3<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Totoki also said the company is looking to surpass second-year sales of PS4 which came to 14.8 million.
