Though there won&rsquo;t be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2021\/06\/09\/battlefield-2042-no-single-player-campaign-multiplayer-narrative\/\" >single-player campaign<\/a>, multiplayer will more than pick up the pieces with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2021\/06\/09\/battlefield-2042-multiplayer-experiences-all-out-warfare-hazard-zone\/\" >three distinct experiences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"video\">\n<div class=\"video-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/RZVz7ThAK24?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RZVz7ThAK24\"  rel=\"noopener\">Watch on YouTube<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Though all three were presented as core components of the same game, we only really got to know All-Out Warfare at a recent preview event. The two other experiences &ndash; DICE LA&rsquo;s mysterious mode (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2021\/05\/11\/ea-play-live-2021-july-date\/\" >set for reveal next month<\/a>) and the even more secret <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2021\/06\/09\/battlefield-2042-free-to-play-cross-play\/\" >Hazard Zone<\/a> are two remaining question marks.<\/p>\n<p>And the big question really is, which one of them is the free-to-play one? Although DICE repeatedly shot down talk of battle royale &ndash; outright telling attendees at a pre-reveal event that Hazard Zone is not a battle royale mode &ndash; parent company EA is no doubt interested in courting some of Warzone&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2021\/04\/21\/call-duty-warzone-100-million-players\/\" >massive player base<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The reception and subsequent quiet death of Battlefield 5&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2020\/01\/24\/battlefield-5-5-2-ttk-update-firestorm-broken-weapon-balance\/\" >BR mode Firestorm<\/a> no doubt also taught EA that large-scale experiences of that nature need to be free-to-play. The publisher is likely keen to recreate Call of Duty&rsquo;s conversion strategy, whereby Warzone essentially exists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2021\/01\/13\/call-of-duty-warzone-potential-curbed-ad-yearly-games\/\" >as an evolving ad for yearly Call of Duty games<\/a>, all while exposing the series to players a full-price game is never going to reach.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.vg247.com\/current\/\/2021\/06\/battlefield_2042_reveal_map_breakaway_screen_nologo_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3840\" height=\"2160\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-793774\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets.vg247.com\/current\/2021\/06\/battlefield_2042_reveal_map_breakaway_screen_nologo_1.jpg 3840w, https:\/\/assets.vg247.com\/current\/2021\/06\/battlefield_2042_reveal_map_breakaway_screen_nologo_1-156x88.jpg 156w, https:\/\/assets.vg247.com\/current\/2021\/06\/battlefield_2042_reveal_map_breakaway_screen_nologo_1-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/assets.vg247.com\/current\/2021\/06\/battlefield_2042_reveal_map_breakaway_screen_nologo_1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/assets.vg247.com\/current\/2021\/06\/battlefield_2042_reveal_map_breakaway_screen_nologo_1-1152x648.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/assets.vg247.com\/current\/2021\/06\/battlefield_2042_reveal_map_breakaway_screen_nologo_1-231x130.jpg 231w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3840px) 100vw, 3840px\"><\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s also worth considering that having so much content to play typically ends up making some of it significantly more popular than the rest. When all or most of your experiences are massive in scale, they won&rsquo;t all be active &ndash; a problem free-to-play can alleviate.<\/p>\n<p>So, does Battlefield 2042 have any free-to-play experience? DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson smiled when asked at the event, asking everyone to stay tuned.<\/p>\n<p>Gabrielson had a similar response to questions about cross-play, particularly as different console generations will have different map sizes and player counts.
