The development and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) all depend on data.\u00a0Thus, data has become a production factor and the basis of digital economy. Data in the digital era can be compared to\u00a0petroleum\u00a0in the industrial era. However, data is intangible and infinite, and\u00a0there\u2019s a HUGE\u00a0amount of data\u00a0being\u00a0generated every minute. How to make good use of data to create value has become the key to success in the\u00a0era of\u00a0digital economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cData drives development\u201d does not mean that data\u00a0will\u00a0automatically\u00a0turn\u00a0into productivity. The value of data cannot be achieved without the corresponding data infrastructure, including facilities\u00a0involved in\u00a0the process of data collection, transmission, storage, and computing. New infrastructure, including new networks, facilities, platforms, and terminals, needs to be built. Specifically speaking, neuron systems for data collection need to be built based on the ubiquitous deployment of smart terminals.\u00a0Secondly, efficient data transmission networks need to be built based on the full coverage of new 5G networks.\u00a0Next, data computing capabilities need to be improved\u00a0based on\u00a0the computing facilities, such as Internet data centers and\u00a0HPC (High-Performance Computing)\u00a0centers.\u00a0At last, intelligent data analysis centers need to be built based on AI platforms, industrial Internet platforms and IoT platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the\u00a0nature of data driving, a data center carries the computing power and\u00a0transforms\u00a0data into intelligence, while a network transmits the computing power to users and\u00a0transform\u00a0data into value.<\/p>\n<p>Architecture and Vision:\u00a0Data-Centric\u00a0Network<\/p>\n<p>The overall architecture of the new data-centric network is shown in Figure 1.<\/p>\n<p> [1]<\/p>\n<p>Figure\u00a01\u00a0\u00a0Data-Centric Network Architecture<\/p>\n<p>Horizontally,\u00a0the data-centric network architecture complies with the end-to-end empowerment principle of service-based networks. That is, the end-to-end Internet protocol-based\u00a0architecture is\u00a0maintained, and the services are mainly processed on the two ends. On the basis of improving core capabilities (for example, deterministic transmission,\u00a0Endogenous\u00a0security, and computing power scheduling), the network opens\u00a0up\u00a0these capabilities in a\u00a0hierarchical\u00a0manner\u00a0with different granularities\u00a0for the service layer to use.<\/p>\n<p>Vertically, the architecture employs the thin-waist model supported by the intelligent control plane. That is, the \u201cthin-waist architecture\u201d of the Internet protocol stack is retained.\u00a0The IP layer is\u00a0kept\u00a0stable enough to extend new functions\u00a0with\u00a0the existing IP fields. Network function extension (mainly\u00a0for\u00a0the operator\u2019s data network) is mainly performed on the centralized control plane with effective use of new IT technologies such as AI and big data.<\/p>\n<p>The three key features\u00a0of\u00a0large-scale determinacy, ubiquitous service and zero-trust\u00a0endogenous\u00a0security\u00a0are requested to\u00a0transmit\u00a0computing power with\u00a0determinacy, security in a data-centric way.<\/p>\n<p> [2]<\/p>\n<p>Figure 2 Evolution from Cloud-Network\u00a0Convergence\u00a0to Computing-Network Integration<\/p>\n<p>Large-Scale Determinacy<\/p>\n<p>Large-scale determinacy means that an IP network with a huge number of devices can support up to millions of data\u00a0flows (such as massive industrial-grade control and sensors) and provide deterministic service guarantee\u00a0by\u00a0meeting strict latency and jitter\u00a0requirements\u00a0for certain services. The industrial Internet also needs\u00a0cross-WAN end-to-end determinacy. The large-scale deterministic IP network proposed by ZTE, based on Native IP, can perform\u00a0regular\u00a0forwarding and\u00a0precision\u00a0scheduling on the new-generation chipsets.\u00a0End-to-end jitter\u00a0can be guaranteed\u00a0no matter how large the networks.<\/p>\n<p>Network Endogenous Security<\/p>\n<p>To meet the security requirements of future networks, ZTE builds a complete set of secure and reliable network architecture from bottom\u00a0to top.\u00a0In this way, Using Zero-trust security mechanism ZTE endows the network with secure and credible attributes and capabilities\u00a0in the\u00a0\u201cgene\u201d\u00a0of the network\u00a0to provide a more solid security foundation for future network protocol systems and network services,\u00a0which\u00a0solves the security problems\u00a0that today\u00a0networks\u00a0face.<\/p>\n<p>Ubiquitous Service<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0the future, cloud-network\u00a0convergence\u00a0is an inevitable trend, and dynamic network adjustment with cloud is an inevitable requirement. Although automatic configuration has been implemented on the network side, which simplifies network operation and maintenance, the fundamental problem has not been solved. In the traditional network and application peer-to-peer\u00a0model, the network and applications\u00a0speak their own languages. The network and applications need to interact with each other through complicated protocols and cross-domain cross-layer orchestration. As a result, the network is not agile enough to meet the requirements of substantial industry applications.<\/p>\n<p>ZTE proposes a service-based network model, which adds a service layer between the basic network and the applications to build a ubiquitous service-based network that is loosely coupled, highly scalable and easy to maintain. The ubiquitous service-based network encapsulates network capabilities such as VPN, TE, service chain and security\u00a0as\u00a0services, and pushes them to the applications through distributed databases.\u00a0The\u00a0\u201clightweight\u201d\u00a0network services directly communicate with the applications. The applications only need to focus on their own requirements without caring\u00a0about specific implementation or support\u00a0for\u00a0complex protocol and network interaction. The ubiquitous service-based network removes complex protocol interaction and cross-domain cross-layer orchestration between the network and applications, and encapsulates all network services\u00a0by\u00a0SRv6. Leaving\u00a0all of\u00a0the discovery, delivery and update of network services to distributed databases, it completely\u00a0disaggregates\u00a0the network from applications, and provides the most open cloud-network\u00a0convergence\u00a0capability and the most extensive access capability.<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion, the data-centric network model deeply reveals\u00a0the essential role of the network and its value in the digital economy era.
