BlueTwelve Studio walked us through its cat-centric game, Stray, during the Annapurna Interactive Showcase today. The new trailer focuses\u00a0on the game\u2019s protagonist and world, including a look at one friendly\u00a0little drone, and breaks\u00a0the news that Stray will now launch\u00a0in early 2022 on PlayStation 5, Playstation 4, and PC.<\/p>\n
Though the game seems poised to become an indie darling, probably fueled by the internet\u2019s well-documented love of cats, we didn\u2019t know much about Stray before today. First shown at Sony\u2019s PlayStation event last summer, Stray\u2019s announcement trailer<\/a> communicated two things very well. One, Stray has a cat in it\u00a0\u2013 that sometimes wears a tiny backpack. Two, the game\u2019s fearless feline inhabits a grim cityscape populated by mechanical beings. Humanity, it seems \u2013 if several graffiti messages in the trailer are any indication \u2013 has met with some unkind end. Between the game’s intriguing, though foreboding, world and its adorable character, we were eager to see more.<\/p>\n Luckily, today\u2019s showcase was happy to oblige. Stray\u2019s new trailer explains the game’s\u00a0lead has been separated from its family. Lost and hurt, it makes its way through a hostile and unfamiliar metropolis just trying to survive. The player will experience this through the cat’s eyes. Whether it’s crossing a lake\u00a0of toxic sludge\u00a0or finding a way past whirling fan blades of death,\u00a0it looks for a while like you’ll be left alone to fend for yourself. Hovering\u00a0helpfully above the ground, the drone\u00a0will aid you with everything\u00a0from picking up objects to\u00a0fighting. \u00a0Apart from introducing B-12, the trailer shows off a few of the game\u2019s puzzles and some rooftop action, giving us a better idea of Stray\u2019s moment-to-moment gameplay. We are also introduced to Doc, a handy-looking robot occupied by thoughts of his son,\u00a0that might\u00a0have an important\u00a0role to play\u00a0in your adventure.<\/p>\n Stray’s new 2022 release window is announced near the end of the video. This is a bit disappointing considering the game\u2019s initial trailer said Stray would be out in 2021.
