Earlier this year, creative director Yoko Taro vaguely revealed a new project<\/a> during Replicant\u2019s first official livestream. \u201c[This is] a somewhat unusual game,\u201d Taro stated emphatically. \u201cI\u2019ve created something mysterious that I have no idea to explain.\u201d Producer Yosuke Saito added that the game will feel \u201cnostalgic and new\u201d and that the development team believes \u201cit\u2019ll definitely sell well.\u201d Furthermore, in a surprise announcement, Yoko Taro\u2019s next game was finally uncovered. It\u2019s a tabletop RPG, a first for the eccentric game designer.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars is the brainchild of Yoko Taro, Yosuke Saito, Keiichi Okabe, and Kimihiko Fujisaka. According to the Square Enix Twitter post, \u201cThe Isle Dragon Roars is a unique table-top RPG video game built of cards.\u201d The brief trailer accompanying the reveal merely showcases a bevy of blank cards <\/span><\/span>\u2013<\/span><\/span> one can only assume that decks will play a big part in the gameplay loop. Another interesting detail is that despite being a TTRPG <\/span><\/span>\u2013<\/span><\/span> a normally physical genre as opposed to digital <\/span><\/span>\u2013<\/span><\/span> The Isle Dragon Roars is being marketed as a video game. This probably explains Okabe\u2019s mention, meaning that stellar music will still hold significant weight in the upcoming game. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars comes hot off the success of Taro\u2019s Nier Replicant and Reincarnation. I enjoyed both titles but was particularly impressed with the latter. In my impressions<\/a>, I concluded, \u201cHeartfelt plotlines with striking visuals, Keiichi Okabe\u2019s mesmerizing score, unintrusive microtransactions, and simple, but rewarding, combat controls establish Reincarnation as one of the best console-like games on mobile devices.\u201d If you\u2019re looking to dive into the Nier franchise, its two latest games are definitely worth checking out.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
