Nokia and Orange claimed software developers would reap benefits in terms of access to the operator\u2019s 5G network as they unveiled an expanded API collaboration intended to boost programmability and revenue opportunities from the infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The companies are making Nokia\u2019s Network as a Code<\/a> platform available to developers seeking to create apps compatible with Orange\u2019s 5G network, adding to the operator\u2019s work in providing commercial APIs through its own portal.<\/p>\n

Nokia stated the companies will provide developers with access to SDKs, network API documentation, a coding sandbox to simulate and test use cases, and so-called code \u201csnippets\u201d for use in new applications.<\/p>\n

The companies are jointly hosting a hackathon at the VivaTech event running this week in Paris, which \u201cwill provide a forum for developers to build new, innovative use cases and applications\u201d.<\/p>\n

Nokia\u2019s platform employs technical standards from \u201cindustry initiatives such as the GSMA Open Gateway initiative<\/a> and the Linux Foundation CAMARA\u201d.<\/p>\n

Orange CTO Laurent Leboucher said the latest collaboration with Nokia \u201cenables compelling business use cases to consume our network assets in ways that were not really feasible years ago\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added the current level of \u201ccollaboration among operators, system integrators, developers and partners is a step change\u201d which puts Orange in a better position to \u201ctap the cloud-native capabilities\u201d of its 5G network.<\/p>\n
