After all, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/wizards-of-the-coast\/\">Wizards of the Coast<\/a>\u00a0has been creating\u00a0new editions of\u00a0<em>D&amp;D\u00a0<\/em>since its first publishing in 1974. Players have countless adventures, modules, and even rulebooks to use\u00a0&amp; refer to when playing their sessions.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dungeons-dragons-dd-5e-spells-useful\/\">The 10 Most Useful D&amp;D 5e Spells Players Should Have<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Eagle-eyed fans will likely open discussions as to which editions of\u00a0<em>D&amp;D\u00a0<\/em>are better than the rest. Additionally, others who want to take a new spin to their campaigns might wonder if it&#8217;s ideal to homebrew classes from previous editions into 5e. In terms of\u00a0homebrew classes from previous editions of <em>Dungeons &amp; Dragons<\/em>, just which ones deserve to be in the official sourcebooks?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Bring To 5e: Battle Dancer<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Battle Dance from <em>D&amp;D\u00a0<\/em><em>3.5e\u00a0<\/em>brings an interesting mix to the Monk and Bard Classes. Given their mastery of dance and deadly combat, they have proficiency with all simple weapons. Battle Dancers begin with Unarmed Strike, and they get increased speed and perks\u00a0through various offensive, defensive, and supportive dances.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the existence of the Monk and Bard Class in <em>5e<\/em>, the game could see use in the Battle Dancer class. Granted,\u00a0<em>3.5e<\/em>&#8216;s depiction of a Battle Dancer seems limited in terms of combat abilities, making Multiclassing a requirement to expand their capabilities.\u00a0Interestingly, &#8220;dance as combat&#8221; already exists in real life in the form of popular fighting styles such as capoeira.\u00a0Players interested in the Blade Dancer can find the class in\u00a0<em>Dragon Compendium<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Leave Alone:\u00a0Crusader<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-2.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Crusader in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 3.5e<\/em>\u00a0can be an agent of vengeance, divinity, knighthood, or whatever cause they please. Given their presence in the Fighter-oriented\u00a0<em>Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords<\/em>, it&#8217;s evident that a large part of the Crusader&#8217;s mechanics dwell in various Martial Maneuvers.<\/p>\n<p>They have access to various features that take advantage of their perseverance in battle. For instance, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/world-warcraft-classes-try-skip\/\">this fighting class<\/a>\u00a0has a pool of &#8220;delayed damage&#8221; that allows them to ignore damage until the start of their next turn. However, their rather in-depth nature might\u00a0make them too time-consuming to\u00a0optimize\u00a0for\u00a0<em>5e<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Bring To 5e: Ardent<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-3.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Ardent uses their Psionic powers <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/elder-scrolls-online-best-warden-builds-ranked-2020\/\">to inspire their companions<\/a> in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 4e<\/em>. Thanks to\u00a0<em>Player&#8217;s Handbook 3<\/em>, players can tap into the power of the Ardent to &#8220;string&#8221; thoughts into empowering messages that augment an ally&#8217;s battle performance. Moreover, their Mantles can help their allies stay safe or stay more vigilant in battle.\u00a0Due to their power source, they can tap into Psionic attacks that can confuse and debilitate opponents.<\/p>\n<p>The Ardent\u00a0would serve as an interesting Psionic class in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 5e<\/em>. Their unique usage of psionic powers can come in the form of abilities only the Ardent has, completely separating them from other spellcasters.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Leave Alone: Swordmage<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-4.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Swordmage\u00a0is a more flexible\u00a0version of the Eldritch Knight in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 4e<\/em>. Having another battle-oriented spellcaster will make the Swordmage redundant in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 5e<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Bring To 5e:\u00a0Savant<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-5.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Savant maximizes Skills in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 3.5e<\/em>, with this\u00a0<em>Dragon Compendium\u00a0<\/em>Class offering players a means to tap into their Skill and Tool Proficiencies.\u00a0Aside from their growing knowledge in lore, they have handy Trapfinding skills, Sneak Attack, and even Skill Assistance that can give invaluable benefits to the party.<\/p>\n<p>Players looking for a diverse Class for their character in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 5e\u00a0<\/em>should look into\u00a0a variant of the Savant. The Savant can bring a lot of interesting gameplay and roleplay options for characters, as their diverse set of Skills makes them a Jack of All Trades. Their innate Proficiency with simple and martial weapons as well as light armor keeps them from being a pushover in battle.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Leave Alone: Avenger<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-6.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Avenger in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 4e\u00a0<\/em>comes with\u00a0<em>Player&#8217;s Handbook 2\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0the class <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/diablo-2-every-class-ranked\/\">taps into the Divine<\/a> as its power source.\u00a0The Avenger uses the Divine to fuel its combat prowess against enemies. As such, the Avenger taps into perks such as Oath of Enmity to chase opponents and bolster its defenses.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, as\u00a0awesome as the Avenger looks,\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 5e<\/em>&#8216;s\u00a0Oath of Vengeance Paladin more or less fulfills the same role as a class. Having the Avenger in this edition would\u00a0be redundant, given their similarity in nature with the Paladin and its Oath.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Bring To 5e: Runepriest<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-7.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Runepriest in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 4e<\/em> comes with the other Divine-based classes in\u00a0<em>Players&#8217; Handbook 3<\/em>. The Runepriest specializes in imbuing their equipment and bolstering their allies&#8217; items with rune magic. Whereas the tech-based Artificer augments items with Arcane magic, the Runepriest introduces Divine magic in their machinations.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/dungeons-dragons-cleric-weapons-best-locations\/\">Dungeons &amp; Dragons: The 10 Best Weapons For Clerics (&amp; Where They&#8217;re Usually Found)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 4e<\/em>, the Runepriest&#8217;s diversity lies not in their simpler class features but rather in their spells. Most of their spells deal with augmenting attacks or defending their allies, befitting the tank role.\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 5e<\/em>\u00a0could diversify the Runepriest&#8217;s skill set by allowing them to actively improve and augment items even for a limited time.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Leave Alone: Binder<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-8.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Binder introduces an interesting Warlock alternative for\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 3.5e\u00a0<\/em>players. Located in\u00a0<em>Tome of Magic<\/em>, the Binder contacts an entity known as a Vestige and makes a Pact with them, gaining their abilities. As the Binder grows stronger, they can make Pacts with more Vestiges. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-dawnblade-warlock-pro-tips-pve\/\">Unlike the Warlock<\/a>, a Binder offers interesting roleplay options. After all,\u00a0failing a bind has both roleplay and gameplay consequences for Binders.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the interesting nature of the Binder as a Class, they may come in conflict with the already-existing Warlock Class. Bringing the Binder to\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 5e\u00a0<\/em>means reconciling the differences between establishing a Pact with a Warlock Patron and Binding with a Vestige.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Bring To 5e:\u00a0Death Master<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-9.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Death Master allows players <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/elder-scrolls-online-best-necromancer-builds-ranked-2020\/\">to command the undead<\/a>, forcing them to do their bidding. Found in\u00a0<em>Dragon Compendium<\/em>, players may want to try out this Class for both its flavor and utility options. Like the Wizard, the Death Master has Spellbooks that contain their various spells, but much of their other features supplement their ability to compel the undead to serve them.<\/p>\n<p>Players with a knack for playing parody or funny characters could make their Death Master a stereotypical villain. Perhaps they can supplement their Death Master with a unique story of their own that explains their motivations to attain Lichdom.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Leave Alone: Battlemind<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/DND-Old-Classes-In-5e-10.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Battlemind in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 4e\u00a0<\/em>serves as a Psionic Defender or <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-sunbreaker-titan-pro-tips-pve\/\">a tanking role<\/a> that relies on Psionic abilities. Found in\u00a0<em>Player&#8217;s Handbook 3<\/em>, the Battlemind has access to spells that let them travel short distances, take on aggro, or even bolster their allies&#8217; defenses. Interestingly, their Psionic abilities play well with other Psionic class offerings in <em>PHB 3<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the Battlemind doesn&#8217;t seem to showcase enough versatility to be a full class in\u00a0<em>D&amp;D 5e<\/em>. In fact, some might argue the Battlemind might serve well as a class archetype.
