Best known for playing sardonic assistant\u00a0Gina Linetti, Peretti\u00a0 thinks that the show could send a radical message.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking over Instagram live with executive editor Eric Kohn, Peretti talked about the show following the killing of George Floyd\u00a0saying\u00a0\u201cmy thought was like \u2018They should just defund the police!\u2019 And have everyone going to do community-oriented work. That\u2019s probably not what they\u2019re going to do. But I\u2019m looking forward to seeing what they do because I know they have to respond to this, the unfortunate reality that policing has been and is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ryan-whitaker-az-shooting\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Man Playing Video Games Shot By Police Responding to Noise Complaint<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Cancelled by\u00a0Fox in 2018, <em>Brooklyn Nine-Nine<\/em> was swiftly picked up by\u00a0NBC where it&#8217;s run for two seasons with another on the way. In June, regular cast member Terry Crews revealed that 4 scripted episodes had been dropped while showrunners\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/brooklyn-nine-nine-season-8-scripts\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">considered what direction to take <\/a>in the wake of the George Floyd killing and Black Lives Matter protests. Another possible direction for the show would be to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/brooklyn-nine-nine-covid-19\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">comment on the current COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jyVXMS9zKoQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Though<a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/brooklyn-99-show-gina-chelsea-peretti-exit-reason\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Peretti left <em>Brooklyn Nine-Nine<\/em> <\/a>as a regular cast member\u00a0in\u00a0its fifth season, she&#8217;s been back\u00a0after appearing in the sixth season episode &#8216;Return of the King&#8217;. Since leaving the show Chelsea has released two\u00a0music EPs themed around coffee, <em>Foam and Flotsam<\/em> and <em>Phosphorescent Panic<\/em>, voiced Monica&#8217;s mother in Netflix&#8217;s <em>Big Mouth<\/em>\u00a0and starred as the lead in anti-romantic comedy <em>Spinster<\/em>.
