Scott Pilgrim vs. The World<\/em> burst into theaters 10 years ago this week but sadly bombed at the box office, earning just over half of its $85 million budget back. Despite the disappointing showing, the\u00a0movie adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series\u00a0went\u00a0on to have a long afterlife, its hyper-kinetic visual style mixing animation and video games influencing\u00a0music videos\u00a0like The Vine’s <\/a>Gimme Love <\/a><\/em>and earning a cult following.<\/em><\/p>\n

On its 10th anniversary, Edgar Wright has tweeted<\/a> a whole series of behind the scenes photos taken throughout\u00a0Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’<\/em>s production.\u00a0Since appearing in Scott Pilgrim<\/em>, a lot of its cast went on to become big stars in their own right over the past decade. Here’s what some of them have been up to since.<\/p>\n

Before\u00a0Scott Pilgrim vs. the World<\/em>, Michael Cera already had made a name for himself in comedy as the\u00a0awkward George Michael (not the singer) in Arrested Development<\/em> before going on to star in cult films Superbad<\/em> and Juno<\/em>. Since playing the slacker hero, Cera has gone for more dramatic roles in films like Person to Person<\/em> and Molly’s Game<\/em> as well as a surprise cameo in Twin Peaks: The Return\u00a0<\/em>while keeping a foot in offbeat comedy shows such as Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp<\/em> and The Shivering Truth<\/em>. Cera also returned to the show that made him famous when Netflix<\/a> rebooted Arrested Development<\/em> and will be contributing his voice to the upcoming animated Blazing Saddles<\/em> reimagining, Blazing Samurai<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Prior to starring as Scott Pilgrim’s love interest, Mary Elizabeth Winstead had appeared in the Disney superhero flick Sky High<\/em> and Live Free and Die Hard<\/em> as the daughter of Bruce Willis’ John McClane. Since\u00a0playing multicolor-haired Ramona, Winstead has appeared in The Thing<\/em> prequel and another Die Hard<\/em> installment, A Good Day to Die Hard<\/em> but her most acclaimed role of recent years was as\u00a0Michelle in 10 Cloverfield Lane<\/em><\/a>. Winstead’s TV roles have included The Returned<\/em>, the U.S. remake of French supernatural drama Les Revenants, <\/em>satirical comedy BrainDEAD<\/em>\u00a0and movie spinoff Fargo<\/em>. Her next movie role will be in Netflix’s upcoming action film, Kate<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Performing in theater since she was a child, Anna Kendrick was already a seasoned actress with some big credits to her name such as the Twilight<\/em> saga<\/a>. Post Scott Pilgrim<\/em> however, she made her name with the\u00a0Pitch Perfect<\/em> trilogy where she played\u00a0Becca Mitchell, an aspiring musician who joins an a cappella group. The first Pitch Perfect<\/em>\u00a0released in 2012 and became a sleeper hit, igniting a new interest in a cappella performance and spawning two sequels. More recently Kendrick has published Scrappy Little Nobody<\/em>, a memoir about her rise to fame,\u00a0provided the voice of Poppy in Trolls <\/em>and Trolls: World Tour<\/em> and recently starred as an FBI agent in the satire The Day Shall Come<\/em>. Kendrick will also be starring in upcoming sci-fi thriller Stowaway<\/em> but no release date has been set.<\/p>\n

Larson’s first major role was in short lived sitcom Raising Dad<\/em> back in 2002 but it was her performance as daughter Kate in United States of Tara<\/em> that really put her on the map. After starring\u00a0as Scott’s ex-girlfriend Envy, Brie Larson’s breakthrough role was the lead in critically acclaimed indie drama Short Term 12<\/em>, which also featured future stars Rami Malek (Mr. Robot<\/em>) and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine<\/em>). But it was in Room<\/em> that Larson received\u00a0critical acclaim, taking home several awards including an Oscar for her performance as a young mother who gave birth in captivity. Nowadays Larson is best known for starring as the lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie\u00a0Captain Marvel,<\/em> which earned the biggest box office of all time for a female-led superhero movie. Her upcoming projects include both a Captain Marvel<\/em> sequel<\/a>, further appearances in the MCU and several shows for Netflix, Amazon and Apple TV+.<\/p>\n

After starring as the sardonic April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation<\/em><\/a>, Aubrey Plaza was the perfect choice to play the permanently irritable Julie Powers. Plaza then went on to star as the lead in indie comedy Safety Not Guaranteed<\/em> and lent her voice to Claire Wheeler in Monsters University<\/em>. A string of comedy films followed such as The To Do List<\/em>, Dirty Grandpa<\/em> and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates<\/em> with\u00a0Scott Pilgrim<\/em> co-star Anna Kendrick. More recently Aubrey Plaza had a recurring role in Noah Hawley’s TV take on Marvel’s mutants Legion<\/em> and as well as producing and\u00a0starring in social media satire Ingrid Goes West<\/em>. Her most recent lead role was in the Child’s Play<\/em> remake with her next two films Best Sellers<\/em> and the CG animated The Ark and the Aardvark<\/em> expected next year.<\/p>\n

Chris Evans was\u00a0no stranger to comic book roles\u00a0by the time he played Ramona’s evil ex Lucas Lee. By then Evans had already been Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four<\/em> movies, voiced sports vigilante Casey Jones in the 2007 CG animated\u00a0TMNT<\/em> movie and played wisecracking hacker Jake Jensen in The Losers<\/em>. But\u00a0anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past 10 years\u00a0knows him best as the MCU cornerstone Captain America<\/a>.\u00a0Evans stepped into the role during the first phase of the MCU with Captain America: The First Avenger<\/em> and would go on to play the role through a further 9 movies with his last appearance in Avengers: Endgame<\/em>. During that time Evans starred in Parasite<\/em> director Bong Joon-Ho’s post-apocalyptic Snowpiercer<\/em> and most recently was seen in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out<\/em>. Evans’ next big role will be alongside Ryan Gosling in Netflix’s adaptation of Mark Greaney’s novel The Gray Man,\u00a0<\/em>expected early 2021.<\/p>\n

Though Edgar Wright is best known for his movie work, he got his break in British TV and his early work included obscure sketch show\/sitcom hybrid Asylum,<\/em> where he first met frequent collaborators Simon Pegg.\u00a0His first big feature,\u00a0Shaun of the Dead<\/em>, inspired by an episode of Spaced<\/em>, was released in 2004 and began the Cornetto Trilogy<\/em> followed by cop spoof Hot Fuzz<\/em> in 2007. After Scott Pilgrim vs. The World<\/em><\/a>, Wright completed the trilogy with The World’s End, <\/em>developed an early draft of Ant-Man<\/em> for the MCU but left the project due to creative differences\u00a0<\/em>and recently released his first solo movie,\u00a0Baby Driver<\/em>. Alongside his film work, Wright also directed several music videos for The Bluetones<\/a>, ’80s Matchbox Disaster<\/a> and ex-Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley<\/a>. Wright’s next film, the psychological horror Last Night in Soho<\/em><\/a>, will be released in early 2021 and he’s attached to direct Set My Heart to Five<\/em> as his next feature.<\/p>\n
