While many Dragonborn may prefer to roam the land of Skyrim<\/a><\/em> alone, the solitary lifestyle can be soul-crushingly lonely. Adventurers may think followers are weak and pointless. Many fans claim it\u2019s better to travel alone than risk your humanoid-shaped backpack dying at the most inopportune time in the middle of a dungeon. But the true Skyrim fans know that these players just haven\u2019t picked the right followers.<\/span><\/p>\n

While many Skyrim companions offer little more than a highly flammable travel bag, the best of the best bring unique skills, scaling levels, and dazzling personality to the Dragonborn\u2019s lonely journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Actually Help: Lydia<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Oh, Lydia. She is sworn to carry the player\u2019s burdens, and she really does carry many fairly far into the game. Lydia is the Housecarl obtained in the city of Whiterun through the progression of the main story. <\/span><\/p>\n

Being earned very early in the game<\/a> (potentially) and having a max level of 50 means that Lydia can grow with the player and remain relevant and helpful in combat for most of the game. A favorite follower for many fans of Skyrim<\/em>, Lydia makes a good pack mule and a powerful side-kick.<\/span><\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Don’t: Njada Stonearm<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Joining the werewolf cult of Whiterun, the Companions will net players the opportunity to recruit a whole bunch of followers and unfortunately, Njada is one that just doesn\u2019t quite hold up to snuff. A warrior class follower with a below-average level (a consistent trait of all of the worst followers in the game) Njada is more of a burden to the Dovahkin than an asset. <\/span><\/p>\n

On top of her lackluster stats and growth, Njada is a nar.! She refuses to commit crimes with the Dragonborn and even turns him in to the town guards if the crime is bad enough.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Actually Help: Ralis Sedarys<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Despite his quest being paying incrementally larger and larger amounts of gold<\/a> so he can fund his excavation, Ralis really offers the Dragonborn a lot. From his ancient Nord pickaxe, Hoarfrost, to his unique NPC class of Dual Wielding Miner, Ralis brings a lot of power to the Dragonborn DLC. <\/span><\/p>\n

W<\/span>hen melee attacking, Ralis uses mostly dual-wielding heavy attacks and at range he deals considerable damage with a bow. On top of all of these perks, Ralis can reach a max level of 60, the highest set max level in the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Don’t: Agmaer<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

A sweet sweet boy from the Dawnguard DLC, Agmaer just wants to fight vampires and save his village. Unfortunately, he doesn\u2019t really have the skills to do it. Maxing out at level 25, Agmaer doesn\u2019t have much to offer the Dragonborn that can\u2019t be found in other followers.<\/span><\/p>\n

His stats are identical to another Dawnguard follower, Beleval, but at least she is unique in being the only female Bosmer follower in the game<\/a>. Despite Agmaer\u2019s likeability, he is overshadowed in the DLC story by Serena and quickly becomes another forgettable follower.<\/span><\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Actually Helps: J\u2019zargo<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Despite being a mere apprentice at the College of Winterhold, J\u2019zargo is one of the most powerful magic-using followers in the game. With no max level and\u00a0many powerful destruction spells at his disposal, J\u2019zargo is the perfect Sorcerer to accompany any ranged Dragonborn. <\/span><\/p>\n

He also heals the Dragonborn when injured and throws upwards to protect from incoming Ice Spikes. Beyond all of that, this wise-cracking Khajiit never fails to leave players with a smile.<\/span><\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Don’t: Adelaisa Vendicci<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Some followers just plain stink, and Adelaisa is one of them. She has a semi-interesting quest where the Dragonborn kills some pirates called the Blood Horkers, but that\u2019s about where the positives end. Her below average level-cap of 25 and her Citizen class make her one of the worst followers in the game. <\/span><\/p>\n

Because of her Citizen class, she flees from combat when seriously wounded and won\u2019t commit any crimes with the Dragonborn. Adelaisa\u2019s only redemption is that she isn\u2019t one of the two the lowest max level followers in Skyrim.<\/span><\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Actually Helps: Serana<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Many know and love Serana as their all-time favorite follower. The vampire princess from the Dawnguard DLC, Serana\u2019s health sapping spells, and overall high-quality stats make her a force to be reckoned with. With a max level of 50, she\u2019s well above the average in the game and her constant spamming of the reanimation spells means a steady stream of undead following her and the player around offering moral support. <\/span><\/p>\n

Serena casts the drain life spell<\/a> (whether or not she has been cured of Vampirism at the end of the DLC narrative), giving her surprising bulk despite capping out at level 50. On top of this, the story for the Dawnguard DLC and the fun of recruiting her makes Serana an all-around great choice for the Dragonborn\u2019s favorite follower.<\/span><\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Don’t: Sven<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

By betraying Faendal and helping Sven to woo the target of their affections in the quest\u00a0“A Lovely Letter<\/a>,” players can recruit the second-worst follower in the game. As one of the earliest followers the Dragonborn can recruit, it makes sense that Sven would be weaker than the rest, however, he is so much weaker, that to choose him over the lovable Faendal is an utter atrocity. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sven is a Lumberjack class with the lowest level cap in the game for any follower; 20. On top of that, because the lumberjack isn\u2019t a combat class, Sven has abysmal combat stats and flees when he gets too hurt. Sven is also a snitch and won\u2019t commit any crimes with the player. How fun is that?<\/span><\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Actually Help: Frea<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Skaal Shaman from Solstheim and the lead NPC of the Dragonborn DLC, Frea is the best follower in Skyrim. With no level cap, Frea can keep up with the Dragonborn as enemies continue to scale<\/a>, and is ultimately invincible and unkillable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not only can Frea never die, but when at low health she casts healing spells so she can get back up and back into the fight faster than normal. And to top it off, she can dual wield without needing to use a forsworn weapon or pickaxe, a rare ability in the game. Frea truly is the ultimate follower.<\/span><\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Don’t: Roggi Knot-beard<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Capping out at level 20, Roggi is tied with Sven for the lowest level cap in the game. Further, Roggi\u2019s citizen class means he has lower stats than almost every other follower. Roggi is as unhelpful as it gets in the land of Tamriel. <\/span><\/p>\n

A drunkard and a buffoon, Roggi has nothing of value to offer the Dragonborn except for the feeling of joy when this utter trash heap of a Nord falls to his death at the hands of a lowly skeever. Also, he doesn\u2019t commit crimes and that just won\u2019t do.<\/span><\/p>\n
