The <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-playstation-4-exclusive-open-world-games\/\">PS4 exclusive title<\/a> has been out for\u00a0less than two months, but the game has shown its extreme popularity at an incredible rate. With numbers like these, the game has reached record-breaking heights in the sales department, both in the US and around the world.<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/the-last-of-us-2\/\"><em>The Last of Us 2<\/em><\/a> was the ranked the 4th best selling game of July, it ranked number 1 in its first month released to the public. Despite\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ghost-tsushima-lethal-no-upgrades\/\"><em>Ghost of Tsushima<\/em><\/a>\u00a0having a surge of sales at its release last month and the backlash over Naughty Dog&#8217;s leaked spoilers before the story was officially available, the Naughty Dog title is still outselling the samurai game. Not only is\u00a0<em>The Last of Us 2<\/em>\u00a0the 3rd highest selling game of PlayStation&#8217;s history in the US, it is also the 3rd highest selling game of the year.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/last-of-us-2-modifiers-cheats-trophies-disabled\/\">Do Last of Us 2 Modifiers and Cheats Disable Trophies?<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The only PlayStation games that have outsold\u00a0<em>The Last of Us 2<\/em>\u00a0are\u00a0<em>Marvel&#8217;s Spider-Man<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>God of War<\/em>, which came out in 2018. Since this game hasn&#8217;t been out for very long, this is an incredibly impressive accomplishment. Along the same line, the only games that have outsold the apocalyptic thriller game this year are <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/animal-crossing-new-horizons-persona-5\/\"><em>Animal Crossing: New Horizons<\/em><\/a> and <em>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare<\/em>, which have also been released for a longer period of time.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MatPiscatella\/status\/1294258841098452999\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>The Last of Us 2<\/em> has been a hit ever since it became available for purchase, and during its first weekend alone, the game sold over 4 million copies. With these numbers, the Naughty Dog release has shown itself to be the fastest selling PS4 exclusive of all time, not just in the US, but around the entire globe. With new additions to the game like the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/last-of-us-2-modifiers-grounded-update\/\">Grounded update<\/a> and a potential multiplayer feature to be added sometime in the future, the game will likely continue to gain sales numbers. The controversy of the game has attracted much attention to the game as well, even though the game&#8217;s well-crafted narrative and characters speak for themselves, the controversy has been noticed outside the gaming community as well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/naughty-dog-new-game-confirmed\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Naughty Dog<\/a> has created a masterpiece with this game, and the sales reflect this.
