Having the right Materia build for each character is important in Final Fantasy 7 Remake<\/em><\/a>. Each character has their own strengths and advantages and having Materia that complement their ideal party role is essential to getting the most out of them.<\/p>\n

This guide will go over the ideal setup for each character and how that fits into the party\u2019s overall strategy. There is always a little variance depending on the player\u2019s preferred playstyle, but this is a solid foundation going forward for any player.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Cloud: Part 1<\/h2>\n

Cloud is the party\u2019s main melee fighter. His job is to be in the frontlines slicing and dicing while his teammates provide aid and support. Because of this Materias aren\u2019t as crucial to his performance and are seen more as a bonus.<\/p>\n

Deadly Dodge is probably Cloud\u2019s strongest Materia option as it enables him to deal area of affect damage immediately after performing a successful dodge. The player will likely spend the majority of the time controlling Cloud making this a useful skill. HP Up is also handy for keeping health high to resist attacks.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Cloud: Part 2<\/h2>\n

Steadfast Block is a great Materia for Cloud<\/a> as it reduces enemy damage and fills the ATB gauge faster when Cloud is on guard. This could be switched out for something a little more offensive based like Time which grants access to Haste to increase the ATB gauge refill rate, but Steadfast Block seems to perform better.<\/p>\n

Elemental Materia + Lightning is a powerful combo and is considered essential on Cloud\u2019s weapon. It increases damage output significantly and Lightning is guaranteed to hit. It also seems thematically appropriate for Cloud to strike with Lightning. Then finally a good summon for Cloud is Ifrit for access to Fire.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Barret: Part 1<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Barret is meant to function as a type of ranged Tank. He can draw enemies attention away from Cloud to give him breathing room and focuses on crowd control. Because of this Barret should be equipped with Assess and First Strike.<\/p>\n

Assess is used to determine the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of opponents. Having this knowledge takes away a lot of guesswork and keeps the party efficient and effective. First Strike is important with this Materia as it gives Barret enough ATB in the beginning of the fight to immediately use Assess.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Barret: Part 2<\/h2>\n

Given Barret is meant to be the tank it\u2019s important to keep his health high with HP Up. Auto-Cure is a handy Materia for Barret as it enables him to heal other members of the team should the designated healer go down. Cleansing can also help to keep teammates from being afflicted by status effects.<\/p>\n

Wind is the ideal elemental Materia for him to wield as it enables him to deal damage to enemies and draw them in towards him. This is handy for keeping other teammates from getting overwhelmed and draws the aggro to himself. For the summon Materia Leviathan<\/a> seems to be a solid choice that complements Barret well.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Aerith: Part 1<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Aerith is the designated healer of the party<\/a>, her primary concern is to keep everyone in the fight as long as possible and get them back up when they go down. Because of this Aerith should absolutely prioritize Magnify + Healing.<\/p>\n

This combination is immensely powerful for keeping the entire Party in the fight. Healing is obvious as it enables her to keep topping off teammates HP. But Magnify can allow her to use that same spell to heal the entire group in the area of affect at the same time when fully upgraded. Sure the effect is diminished, but being able to heal everyone at once saves a ton of MP and is very efficient even with the loss.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Aerith: Part 2<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Revival is also critical for Aerith as it allows her to get teammates back up when they\u2019re knocked down. Not only does this save Phoenix Down feathers but is essential on higher difficulties that don\u2019t allow items like Phoenix Down.<\/p>\n

Refocus lets her break her ATB gauge into three parts for faster regeneration. Pray is another means of healing the entire party if they\u2019re spread out too far.\u00a0 Fire is the element of choice mainly for balancing reasons. Then the summon should be something like Shiva.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Tifa: Part 1<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Tifa is a multi-use fighter<\/a> able to jump into the front lines or hang back and use spells as needed. This means she\u2019s capable of being support, tank, melee fighter, healer, and more as the player sees fit. This is a recommended Materia build based on the composition of the other teammates.<\/p>\n

Time Materia is her bread and butter throughout the game. Haste, Slow, and Stop especially are useful Time spells that can give Tifa options in battle to improve herself or control the crowd. Steadfast Block is a good Materia to increase her durability and fill the ATB<\/a> gauge faster.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Tifa: Part 2<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Barrier Materia lets Tifa focus more on defense <\/a>and step in as tank when needed. A Barrier spell like Manawall is also helpful for shrugging off strong magical boss attacks. HP Up is a given to keep her health high and stay in the fight regardless of the role she\u2019s filling.<\/p>\n

The best element for Tifa is Ice, partially for balancing and because it gives her strong offensive options if she needs to act as ranged mage. Then finally Tifa can choose to summon something like Fat Chocobo<\/a> that will benefit the team and holds its own in plenty of fights.<\/p>\n
