While fans are waiting for Nintendo to host a proper Nintendo Direct presentation, the company has released another Indie World showcase<\/a> video. Similarly to past Indie World presentations, the latest Nintendo Indie World showcased highlighted a number of indie games that are in active development for the Switch.<\/p>\n

However, today’s Indie World showcase was a bit more exciting than usual, as Nintendo surprise-launched six promising indie games on the Switch’s eshop, as well as made some surprising announcements about one of 2019’s biggest indie games as a way to close out the show.<\/p>\n

Here is everything that was announced during the Nintendo Indie World showcase on August 18.<\/p>\n

The latest Nintendo Indie World event was notable for having numerous surprise launches, giving fans a chance to try some of the games shown off right away. The first of these was\u00a0Spiritfarer<\/em>, a game with an anime-inspired art style that is about ferrying lost souls to the afterlife. Players can also check out\u00a0Takeshi & Hiroshi<\/em>, which is a game about a boy creating a video game for his little brother to play, with the challenge being to properly balance it.<\/p>\n

Another surprise launch was\u00a0Raji: An Ancient Epic<\/em><\/a>, which has been compared to games like\u00a0God of War<\/em> and\u00a0Prince of Persia<\/em>. Where\u00a0Raji<\/em> stands out, though, is its focus on Indian culture and mythology, which is an area that has not been explored very thoroughly by video games.<\/p>\n

Besides\u00a0Raji<\/em>, another big surprise launch was the announcement that\u00a0A Short Hike<\/em><\/a> is now available for the Nintendo Switch. For the uninitiated,\u00a0A Short Hike<\/em> was one of the most critically-acclaimed indie games of 2019, earning widespread acclaim and being nominated for numerous year-end awards. And now it’s available as a timed-console exclusive for the Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n

Speaking of critically-acclaimed indie games, Switch owners can also get their hands on\u00a0Manifold Garden<\/em> today, on top of\u00a0Evergate<\/em>, which is a platforming game that looks similar to\u00a0Ori and the Blind Forest<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Nintendo Indie World presentation kicked off with the announcement that\u00a0Hades<\/em><\/a>, the latest from\u00a0Bastion<\/em>\u00a0developer Supergiant Games, will be coming to the Switch this fall. Not only that, but those that have already played\u00a0Hades<\/em>\u00a0on PC will be able to transfer their saves to the Switch.<\/p>\n

As far as games with specific 2020 release dates go,\u00a0Hypnospace Outlaw<\/em>\u00a0was confirmed for an August 27 Switch release date, with a demo available in the eshop now. Meanwhile,\u00a0Torchlight 3<\/em><\/a> is also coming to the Nintendo Switch, with Switch owners getting access to an exclusive Red Fairy pet.<\/p>\n

There was a big focus on 2020 for the Indie World showcase, but Nintendo also shone the spotlight on some titles that will be available for the Switch in 2021. This included the action-adventure game\u00a0Garden Story<\/em>, as well as the more high-profile\u00a0Subnautica<\/em>\u00a0and its sequel,\u00a0Subnautica: Below Zero<\/em><\/a>. The bizarre\u00a0Bear & Breakfast<\/em>\u00a0is also coming to the Switch in 2021, and it will be a timed-console exclusive to boot.<\/p>\n

Another strange Switch indie game coming in 2021 is\u00a0Card Shark<\/em>, which is all about cheating in card games, with dire consequences if players are caught in the act.<\/p>\n
