Director\u00a0Yeon Sang-ho’s Train to Busan\u00a0<\/em>offered audiences a thrilling\u00a0zombie\u00a0apocalypse film with an emotional core and relevant social commentary. Now, the Korean filmmaker is returning to the same universe as Train to Busan<\/em> with a standalone sequel titled Peninsula<\/em> and a new extended sneak preview offers audiences a glimpse at a thrilling rescue sequence from the anticipated film.<\/p>\n

Released in 2016,\u00a0Train to Busan\u00a0<\/em>centered on a group of passengers as they try to survive\u00a0a contained horde of their fellow travelers who have become infected with a disease that brings upon\u00a0a zombie apocalypse.\u00a0In addition to becoming a global box office hit with a worldwide gross of\u00a0$98.5\u00a0million, Train to Busan<\/em> received acclaim and accolades for its unique take on the zombie genre<\/a> and three-dimensional cast of characters. Sang-ho continued to explore the Train to Busan<\/em> universe with an animated prequel titled\u00a0Seoul Station <\/em>and his second feature in the franchise,\u00a0Peninsula<\/em>, will make its U.S. theatrical debut in August before being available on\u00a0Shudder in 2021.<\/p>\n

During an interview with Syfy Wire,\u00a0Sang-ho explained\u00a0that his desire to return to the Busan<\/em> universe stems from the ideas he developed while location scouting for the original film.\u00a0“I visited many closed train stations like the one in the movie. The closed train stations were neglected and in ruins, and I thought it was very beautiful,” he said.\u00a0“After\u00a0Train to<\/em>\u00a0Busan<\/em>, I talked a lot about a post-apocalyptic backdrop with the staff who accompanied me to those sites. That\u2019s when I start thinking that if we ever made a sequel to\u00a0Train to Busan<\/em>, I wanted to create a backdrop of a post-apocalyptic and ruined Korea.”<\/p>\n

Set four years after the original film<\/a>,\u00a0Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula\u00a0<\/em>follows a soldier named Jung-seok as he embarks on a mission\u00a0into\u00a0the wasteland to save others trying to\u00a0get away from the zombies, but the new sneak preview reveals that he may be the one in need of rescuing after he crosses paths with a group of survivors\u00a0who arrive just as he appears to be surrounded by the infected.<\/p>\n
