While <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fall-guys-mobile-scam\/\">fraudulent or unsavory advertisements<\/a>\u00a0are still a problem for YouTubers that might mainly rely on advertiser revenue,\u00a0<strong>Twitch\u00a0<\/strong>partners and affiliates can also earn money through\u00a0paid subscriptions, bits and donations. However, after using the Twitch donation messages for an ad campaign, the marketing firm Ogilvy is facing backlash and accusations of exploitation from Twitch streamers and viewers alike.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/us-army-abandons-twitch\/\">US Army Abandons Twitch Plans After Multiple Controversies<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>On August 18th, Ogilvy unveiled a new\u00a0ad that grabbed footage from several <a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/twitch\">Twitch<\/a> streams. Entitled &#8220;The King of Stream,&#8221; the advertisement featured an Ogilvy bot which would donate three to five dollars to a streamer and read out an advertisement for a Burger King combo deal. Splicing in footage of Twitch streamers joking that these messages made them hungry or made Burger King sound appealing, the marketing firm claimed that it had &#8220;turned donations into ads.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ogilvy\/status\/1295707612315553799\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This advertisement immediately\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/us-army-twitch-channel-reportedly-shuts-down-after-being-exposed\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">drew the ire of many Twitch streamers.<\/a> For example, Twitch streamer RubberNinja shared his own sarcastic interaction with the Burger King bot, and called it &#8220;scummy as hell.&#8221; Popular streamer Anne Munition chimed in with her own criticism of the campaign, stating that her marketing was worth more than five dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Neither Ogilvy nor Burger King have commented on the recent backlash.
