Since the anime’s debut in 2000,\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>has released not just new\u00a0series but games to go along with them. Interestingly enough, there are actually Konami<\/a> spinoff games that add quite the weird spin to the\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>formula. Just what are these unique titles, and what do they offer?<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM<\/h2>\n

Unlike other TCG adaptations that use its source’s traditional rules,\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>BAM<\/em>\u00a0looks like an adaptation of an existing\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>card. In fact, eagle-eyed fans might realize that\u00a0BAM<\/em>‘s rules seem similar to the “Subspace Battle” Continuous Spell Card.<\/p>\n

Players triggering “Subspace Battle” will force both sides to reveal three Monster Cards from their deck one after the other. However, the owners of the cards with the higher ATK value will add them to their hand, with the rest sent to the Graveyard. In\u00a0BAM<\/em>, this\u00a0mechanic remains. As such, players only have three Monster Card slots and three Spell\/Trap Card slots, only have 15 Cards in their deck, and focus on fast-paced battles. Duelists can play\u00a0BAM\u00a0<\/em>on Facebook<\/a> and mobile platforms, but its servers were officially shut down in 2016.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Duel Transer<\/h2>\n

Fans who\u00a0own a Nintendo Wii\u00a0can enjoy an authentic Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>experience with\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Duel Transer<\/em>. The game features 4,523 cards with the ability to duel other players via Wi-Fi. However, unlike other\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>games that\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon<\/a><\/em>–esque sprites<\/a> to add an exploration component to dueling, Duel Transer\u00a0<\/em>introduces a hex system\u2013 like a board game.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Duel Transer<\/em>, players navigate the overall story in “stages” with a huge hexagonal map. Moreover, players will often find other characters, items, or question marks (hidden game elements) throughout the grid. Duels only happen once players land on a hex with another character in it. As such, other players might think the entire hex grid mechanic isn’t needed in the game\u2013 but it does add a bit of spice to conventional\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>gameplay.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelist Of The Roses<\/h2>\n

Fans who owned a PlayStation 2<\/a>\u00a0rejoiced back in 2003 when Konami finally released a\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>game for the platform. Aside from being a conventional\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>adaptation,\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelist of the Roses\u00a0<\/em>recreates a historical event… with card games. In\u00a0The Duelist of the Roses<\/em>, players take on a story that loosely adapts the real-world Wars of the Roses, with popular\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>characters representing various historical figures.<\/p>\n

However, unlike in other grand strategy games like\u00a0Civilization\u00a0<\/em>that reenact historical events,\u00a0Duelist of the Roses\u00a0<\/em>adds a dueling spin to the Wars of the Roses’ battles. Moreover, unlike other TCG adaptations,\u00a0Duelist of the Roses\u00a0<\/em>adds a basic movement mechanic to cards that allow them to fight specific monsters, akin to an army.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Yu-Gi-Oh! Destiny Board Traveler<\/h2>\n

Fans who owned a Game Boy<\/a> Advance\u00a0& clamored for a unique\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>experience\u00a0found one with\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh! Destiny Board Traveler<\/em>. In this game, players can find an interesting party experience with a\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>twist.<\/p>\n

Essentially,\u00a0players move around the Destiny Board and trigger various effects. However, players also need to use the special Summon Die to summon monsters to fight against the opponents’. Unlike other adaptations, this game doesn’t have Spell and Trap Cards.\u00a0 Moreover, the game offers a lot of flexibility especially in terms of multiplayer, as the person designated Player 1 can modify the Destiny Board and the various win conditions of a game. As such, games can take 15 minutes or even six hours to finish.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Yu-Gi-Oh! Dungeon Dice Monsters<\/h2>\n

Unlike other game-based anime,\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>introduced quite a few board game “spin-offs” inside their story that made it in real life. Duke Devlin’s\u00a0Dungeon Dice Monsters<\/em>\u00a0served as one of those spinoffs, and it even had its own Game Boy Advance iteration. In\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh! Dungeon Dice Monsters<\/em>, players battle other Duelists in a game of\u00a0Dungeon Dice Monsters<\/em>, adapting its original mechanics for the Game Boy Advance.<\/p>\n

Players win a match if their monsters hit the opponent across the board three times. In order to do this, they need to roll special dice that can summon monsters on their side of the field and unfold a path they can travel. Likewise, monsters can defend their respective players by fighting the monsters of the other side as they meet in adjacent squares.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Terminal<\/h2>\n

If other popular card games like\u00a0Dinosaur King\u00a0<\/em>had an arcade game, why can’t\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!<\/em> have one, too? Fans of Konami’s TCG that clamored to play\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>in the arcade can do so with\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Terminal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Duel Terminal<\/em>, players can use cards they see in the arcade screen or even use their own cards under the “Duel Terminal” edition. Ss players might expect,\u00a0Duel Terminal\u00a0<\/em>games remain fast-paced in nature. As such, players can either play Action Duels or Speed Duels, both of which designed to be fast and quick for players.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, players can only get “Duel Terminal” cards from the machines, as they’re dropped after a game has ended. They can also battle characters across various\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>series<\/a>, from the first\u00a0Duel Monsters\u00a0<\/em>anime to\u00a0Zexal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The game’s primary objective is to destroy the King Monster or all the monsters in the opponent’s side of the field. Interestingly, monsters can level up and get stronger after battles.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s Wheelie Breakers<\/h2>\n

When Konami released the\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s\u00a0<\/em>anime, people either got initially weirded out with its post-apocalyptic setting<\/a> or\u00a0the card games on motorcycles mechanic. In order to escape, they need to use popular monsters from the game<\/a> and duel various opponents.<\/p>\n

The game features 3D environments in a vast field akin to kingdom. Players can move to various structures and battle opponents occupying them, eventually leading to their escape.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Card Almanac (DS)<\/h2>\n

The strangest spinoff in\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>history isn’t a game per se, but rather a dueling assistant. Fans who owned a Nintendo DS<\/a>\u00a0and love playing\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh!\u00a0<\/em>in real life can enjoy tinkering with\u00a0Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Card Almanac.\u00a0<\/em>However, it’s not actually a “game,” but rather a comprehensive guide of\u00a0GX-<\/em>era cards (up to\u00a0“Strike of Neos”).<\/p>\n

Moreover, the game has tools such as virtual coin flip, virtual dice roll, and a Life Point calculator. It even has a list of popular real-world card combos players can use in their games.<\/p>\n
