EA\u2019s UFC 4 <\/i><\/a>has been out for a few days and has been quite well-received by critics and fans alike. However, even though it\u2019s available as part of a 10 hour trial through EA Access\/EA Play<\/a> some gamers may still be on the fence about whether or not they want to invest in another edition of EA\u2019s mixed martial arts series.<\/p>\n

On the surface, it doesn\u2019t look as though much has changed in UFC 4 <\/i>compared to its predecessors, but those that dive into the game\u2019s mechanics will see and even feel some significant improvements and changes. With that in mind, it\u2019s always good to know a few things before jumping into the game so one knows what to expect.<\/p>\n

11 <\/span>The Career Mode Has Been Revamped<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The biggest star of the show in\u00a0EA\u2019s UFC 4\u00a0<\/i>is the revamped career mode, which is a huge improvement over its predecessors in the series. In this iteration, the career mode will see players rise through the ranks from an amateur to\u00a0Dana White\u2019s Contender\u00a0<\/i>series, the minor fighting leagues of the WFA.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s even a social media aspect that allows players to build their fighter\u2019s status and create rivalries. It isn\u2019t all about creating rivalries, however, as friendships can be formed to gain new training partners and learn new techniques.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>How To Unlock The DLC Fighters<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

UFC 4\u00a0<\/i>gives players who preordered the game immediate access to the DLC fighters. These fighters are legendary martial arts superstar Bruce Lee<\/a> and the two best heavyweight boxers in the world,\u00a0Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, these fighters can be unlocked for free in the game simply by playing and completing the career mode. Not only is the career mode a way to learn the many systems and mechanics involved in\u00a0UFC 4\u00a0<\/i>but it offers a great incentive by rewarding the player with these great fighters.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Practice Makes Perfect<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There are practice modes and training manuals built into the game\u2019s Offline modes and for good reason. In fairness to EA, they have made\u00a0UFC 4\u00a0<\/i>far more accessible than ever before and even newbies can jump in and enjoy what the game has to offer.<\/p>\n

However, if one wants to really master the game\u2019s many systems they need to put in the work because practice really does make perfect in\u00a0UFC 4.\u00a0<\/i>Players should utilize all that the game has to offer to get to grips with it because it is invaluable for learning how to defend takedowns<\/a>, break away from the clinch, and escape transitions.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Switch Back To Legacy Mode<\/h2>\n

As stated,\u00a0UFC 4\u00a0<\/i>is a far more welcoming game to newcomers than its predecessors. In addition to returning fight modes like Knockout Mode and as well as Stand and Bang, the game makes it easier than ever to fight on the ground with the inclusion of the Assist feature in settings.<\/p>\n

The Assist feature lets new players that would otherwise be intimidated by\u00a0UFC 4<\/i>\u2019s ground game feel more competitive in any fight. However, for those that are looking to compete online they should really switch back to Legacy to revert the settings back to its predecessor\u00a0UFC 3<\/i><\/a>. The Legacy system gives its players full control whether they are defending or in a dominant position. Furthermore, Legacy mode gives players far more options than the Assist option does when it comes to different offensive and defensive actions.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>The Submission System Has Changed<\/h2>\n

If there was one major area that put many gamers off\u00a0EA\u2019s UFC\u00a0<\/i>series it was an overly complicated and fiddly submission system. It was difficult to learn, clunky, and never really allowed the player to feel like they were in control.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, the submission system<\/a> has been completely revamped in\u00a0UFC 4<\/i>\u00a0with a\u00a0WWE 2K<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>style meter chasing system. It\u2019s simplified\u00a0compared to\u00a0its predecessors but it also lets the player feel like they are more in control.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Tap And Hold Striking<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

For the most part, throwing strikes in\u00a0UFC 4\u00a0<\/i>feels more or less the same as its predecessors. Landing combination punches feels very similar although it is much more fluid when it comes to counterpunching.<\/p>\n

However, what is new in\u00a0UFC 4\u00a0<\/i>is the new tap-and-hold system which allows players to dynamically land quicker punches and kicks with a tap of the button or land heavier strikes by holding down the button. It\u2019s a great system that really allows players to feel and control the impact of their hits in the Octagon.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Custom Fights<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

One of the most interesting features in\u00a0UFC 4<\/i>\u00a0is it gives players the power to customize their fights to their liking. Players can select between 3 Round, 5 Round, and Championship fights and even adjust how fast the timer counts down.<\/p>\n

In addition, players can select the arena, active perks, stamina, health recovery meters, transition speed, damage meters, submission speed, and more. Another fun feature is the ability to select open-weight fights so fighters from different weight classes can fight each other for some true (and often hilarious) David and Goliath battles.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Custom Events<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Fans of the UFC will always have certain matchups in mind that will get them excited. Whether it\u2019s a super fight between Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones or a dream bout between UFC legend George St-Pierre and Khabib Nurmagomedov.<\/p>\n

UFC 4<\/i>\u00a0allows players to great the card of their dreams packed with super fights, dream matches, and contests between future stars that are guaranteed to make history.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Online Blitz Battles<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

New to\u00a0EA\u2019s UFC 4\u00a0<\/i>is the brand new online mode called Blitz Battles. These are fights that can add unusual stipulations like a \u201cMinute to Win It\u201d which temporarily change the weight class of the player\u2019s fighter and make them fight to win a battle in under a minute.<\/p>\n

There are several more stipulations and match types that will change every time and it helps to keep the game fresh by adding a different dynamic to typical online modes.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Create A Fighter Is More Flexible<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Even the Create a Fighter feature in\u00a0UFC 4\u00a0<\/i>has seen quite a bit of improvement this year. Players can now kit out their fighters with crazy and ridiculous\u00a0Fortnite-<\/a><\/i>style costumes and masks.<\/p>\n

However, for the more serious players out there, the tools on offer are flexible and deep enough for them to create their own Brock Lesnar to create those much-talked about dream matches with Daniel Cormier or Stipe Miocic.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>The Gameface Feature Has Been Removed<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As flexible and as customizable as the Create a fighter tools are there is one major feature missing from the game\u2019s predecessors that hasn\u2019t been included. The Gameface option allowed gamers to upload a photograph of their faces so they could have accurate recreations of themselves or their favorite fighters in the game.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an unfortunate omission from this year\u2019s game and it also means that gamers will need to spend quite a bit of time customizing their character if they want an accurate recreation of someone like Floyd Mayweather.<\/p>\n
