Perhaps more so than ever, Nintendo&#8217;s latest console is playing host to a number of epic and enjoyable\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>games and titles\u00a0like them; each with distinct characteristics.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed,\u00a0there are a <em>variety<\/em> of franchises &#8211;\u00a0from little known indies to major releases &#8211; that capture the essence and majesty of <em>BotW\u00a0<\/em>and the beloved series it belongs to\u00a0while doing their own thing. Luckily, there are quite a few games in the Switch&#8217;s library that have bits and pieces of what makes Zelda&#8217;s latest title so beloved.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This list was updated to both include games that released after its first publication, such as Link&#8217;s Awakening, or to add a few titles that we felt deserved to be recommended to avid fans of Breath of the Wild.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">15 <\/span>Link&#8217;s Awakening<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/links-awakening-switch-gameplay-bow-wow.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Putting <em>Zelda<\/em> games on this list is a no-brainer, as there&#8217;s a very likely chance that Nintendo&#8217;s famous <em>Zelda<\/em> charm will captivate you in both 3D and 2D settings if you&#8217;re a fan of <em>Breath of the Wild<\/em>. This is the third release of <em>Link&#8217;s Awakening<\/em>, this time being a complete graphical overhaul.<\/p>\n<p><em>Link&#8217;s Awakening<\/em> on the switch is absolutely gorgeous and plays as smooth as butter. Like <em>Breath of the Wild<\/em>, <em>Link&#8217;s Awakening<\/em> opens up the full overworld to explore to your heart&#8217;s content pretty early on, giving that same, wonderful sense of exploration.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">14 <\/span>Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Link-Using-Ball-and-Chain-Hyrule-Warriors.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>One of the Wii U&#8217;s surprise hits has made its way to the Switch, and in finer form than ever. It would seem to be a no-brainer that this\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>spin-off should be given a look for fans of\u00a0<em>Breath of the Wild<\/em>. While the world-building, of course, contains similarities to the main series&#8217; fantastical Hyrule and its colorful monsters, the actual gameplay is more akin to\u00a0<em>Dynasty Warriors<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, this game is like\u00a0<em>Zelda <\/em>amped up to 11,\u00a0taking the number of baddies on-screen to absurd and insanely fun levels.\u00a0<em>Hyrule Warriors\u00a0<\/em>is\u00a0a super satisfying hack &#8216;n&#8217; slash which is\u00a0especially\u00a0suited for Switch&#8217;s handheld pick-up-and-play sensibilities.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">13 <\/span>Hyper Light Drifter<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/hyper-light-drifter-cutscene.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>It isn&#8217;t all too often that an indie game of this magnitude is released to such critical acclaim, but <em>Hyper Light Drifter<\/em> absolutely lives up to its popularity. Created by a very small team of indie developers, <em>Hyper Light Drifter<\/em> takes classic <em>Zelda<\/em> formulas and turns them into something uniquely beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>The fast-paced, challenging gameplay is complemented by a story that needs to be played to be understood, as everyone will interpret its cryptic cutscenes in different ways. You&#8217;re going to get lost quite a bit during your playthrough, but that makes it all the more enjoyable.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">12 <\/span>Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/oceanhorn-monster-of-uncharted-seas-switch.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Until Nintendo finally decides to bite the bullet and port <em>Wind Waker HD <\/em>to the Switch, <em>Oceanhorn <\/em>is here to fill that sea-faring <em>Zelda-<\/em>shaped hole in our hearts. Originally released as a mobile title, <em>Oceanhorn<\/em> isn&#8217;t afraid to pull a ton of things from multiple <em>Zelda<\/em> games, and it does so with its own special charm.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll be sailing seas in search of treasure, exploring caves, and fighting monsters just like <em>Zelda<\/em>, but <em>Oceanhorn<\/em> is a much more compact adventure fit for those looking for a quick and easy little journey.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">11 <\/span>Collection Of Mana<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Collection-of-Mana.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Dating back to the early GameBoy days, SquareEnix&#8217;s handheld offshoot of\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy\u00a0<\/em>eventually blossomed into an admirable action-RPG in its own right.<\/p>\n<p>This trio of RPGs stands as a superb collection consisting of 3 very\u00a0<em>Zelda<\/em>-esque adventure titles, complete with even deep customization, gripping stories, cool magic systems, and majestic environments. In particular,\u00a0<em>Secret of Mana<\/em>, as well as its <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/trials-of-mana-hd-release-date\/\">sequel<\/a> &#8211; which is being localized for the first time &#8211; both feel like\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>games of the 16-bit era that never were.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Bastion<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/bastion-switch-gameplay.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Paving the way for many indie games after it, <em>Bastion<\/em> has its roots in classic 2D <em>Zelda<\/em> gameplay, and every bit of it is just as great. <em>Bastion <\/em>excels with its fun, polished combat, exploration, and a unique art style to call its own.<\/p>\n<p>Now on Nintendo Switch 9 years later, <em>Bastion<\/em> looks better than ever and serves as one of the best action RPGs on the platform at an unbeatable price, making it a prime choice for any <em>Zelda<\/em> fan looking for an unforgettable time.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Lttle Dew 2 +<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Little-Dew-2-Plus-Field-Trees.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>This surprisingly enduring little indie manages to capture the charming simplicity and colorful visuals of older\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>games while providing an open-world that allows dungeons to be tackled in any order.<\/p>\n<p>This adventure title is essentially a\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>clone to the point of injecting some humorous self-aware gags, yet it&#8217;s still a terrific experience in its own right. Its neat hand-drawn cartoon art style and a couple of innovative gameplay concepts allow <em>Lttle Dew 2 +\u00a0<\/em>to feel both familiar and unique.\u00a0The game encourages exploration and provides a smattering of clever puzzles while injecting tons of satisfying combat that is easy to grasp and\u00a0engaging.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Dark Souls Remastered<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/dark-souls-remastered-boss-gameplay.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>If the post-apocalyptic Hyrule seen in <em>Breath of the Wild<\/em> just so happened to be filled with disgusting demons and monsters, undead warriors, and a few bonfires here and there, it wouldn&#8217;t be too different from <em>Dark Souls<\/em>&#8216; Lordran.<\/p>\n<p>As is Hyrule, Lordran is largely explorable right from the get-go, with only a few cryptic hints to keep you on the right track. Just as how almost anything can act as a weapon in <em>BOTW<\/em>, <em>Dark Souls<\/em> prides itself on having a huge list of equipment, making every playthrough feel like an entirely different experience, which also makes finding random weapons and armor around the world all the more rewarding.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Final-Fantasy-XII-Zodiac-Age-Battle-Monsters.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Of all the titles from Square Enix&#8217;s epic and iconic RPG franchise, it may seem a bit odd to feature the lesser-known &#8220;black sheep&#8221; of the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/final-fantasy-better-other-jrpg-games\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Final Fantasy<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>family as a suitable <em>BotW\u00a0<\/em>alternative. Yet, as a whole,\u00a0<em>FFXII<\/em>&#8216;s\u00a0gameplay formula tends to adhere closest to these sensibilities, from the more action-oriented combat to the fantasy environments of the semi-open worlds.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-best-worst-characters\/\">Final Fantasy: The 5 Best Main Characters In The Whole Series (&amp; The 5 Worst)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>FFXII\u00a0<\/em>stands as one of the more underrated entries in the series, being sandwiched between the beloved\u00a0<em>FFX<\/em> and the hype of\u00a0<em>XIII<\/em>. Furthermore, the remastered Switch version is the game at its very best. It looks and feels fantastic,\u00a0while the unique Gambit system, along with a number of gameplay tweaks, makes for a fun and intuitive\u00a0battle system. This is a gripping adventure that shouldn&#8217;t be overlooked if you&#8217;re a\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>fan, especially given its relatively cheap price.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Cadence Of Hyrule: Crypt Of The NecroDancer Featuring The Legend Of Zelda<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Cadence-Of-Hyrule-Lake.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>This announcement came out of nowhere during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oYd_pph6RnI\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nintendo Direct<\/a> showcase earlier this year, much to the delight of old-school <em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>fans.\u00a0Sure,\u00a0<em>Cadence of Hyrule\u00a0<\/em>is mainly a rhythmic-based experience dressed with\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>themes. Yet, whether you&#8217;re a fan of heart-pumping rhythm games or not,\u00a0<em>Cadence of Hyrule\u00a0<\/em>shines through as one of the most interesting, innovative indies this year.<\/p>\n<p>This amusing collaboration between Nintendo and Brace Yourself Games\u00a0makes for a satisfying musical adventure that&#8217;s tough to put down. The game combines thrilling action with subtle strategy, as you must time your moves correctly while anticipating the moves of enemies.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Blossom-Tales-Sleeping-King-Switch-Town.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Marking its first-ever appearance on a console,\u00a0<em>Blossom Tales<\/em>\u00a0runs with a charmingly simple overhead 16-bit\u00a0visual\u00a0that is somewhere between NES-era\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>A Link To The Past<\/em>. The game is something of a truncated\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>adventure, but it still captivates with\u00a0its\u00a0appealing retro aesthetic, interesting dungeons, and some exciting boss battles throughout.<\/p>\n<p>This sleeper hit stresses the action-laced\u00a0elements\u00a0of early\u00a0<em>Zelda\u00a0<\/em>too, with some intense and enjoyable combat, and a range of distinctive baddies to fend off during your\u00a0 6-7 hour romp.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>OKAMI HD<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Okami-HD-Switch-Hut.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>A surprise hit from the now-defunct Clover Studio,\u00a0<em>OKAMI <\/em>shines as both an artistic and gameplay marvel that has aged like a fine wine. It features some imaginative puzzles, unique dungeons, and enjoyable combat that\u00a0<em>BotW<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>fans should both recognize and appreciate.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Skyrim-Dragonsreach.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Widely regarded as the pinnacle of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-rpgs-ever-made-according-metacritic\/\">epic Western RPGs<\/a>,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/skyrim\/\">Skyrim<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is absolutely\u00a0dripping with content, along with rich, immersive locations, endless dungeons, intimidating foes, and satisfying spells. Much like <em>Zelda<\/em>, this in-depth role-playing adventure takes the fantasy sensibilities\u00a0of\u00a0<em>Dungeons &amp; Dragons\u00a0<\/em>and fleshes everything out with its vast open worlds that beckon you to explore it.<\/p>\n<p>Given\u00a0<em>Skyrim<\/em>&#8216;s clear influence on the sandbox nature and\u00a0free-flowing gameplay\u00a0in Nintendo&#8217;s latest mainline\u00a0<em>Zelda<\/em>, this one&#8217;s a no brainer for\u00a0<em>BotW\u00a0<\/em>fans to dive into. You can even equip yourself with Link&#8217;s trademark outfit and Master Sword in the Switch version! All it needs is Princess Zelda, Gannon, and the Triforce, and this would feel akin to a Westernized version of Nintendo&#8217;s flagship title.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Minecraft: Switch Edition<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Minecraft-Mario-Peach-Switch.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>It&#8217;s tough to deny the superiority of the PC version of this\u00a0huge indie sandbox odyssey. Going\u00a0full-blown &#8220;survival mode&#8221; and slaying tons of baddies, building elaborate structures, or engaging in a bit of deep mining and dungeon crawling; players can do just about <em>anything<\/em>.\u00a0<em>Minecraft\u00a0<\/em>is like a totally open-ended, blocky version of a\u00a0<em>Zelda<\/em>-style journey.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Fire Emblem: Three Houses<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Fire-Emblem-Three-Houses-Byleth-Enlightened-One.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Standing tall as one of the richest and longest campaigns in the Switch library,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/tag\/fire-emblem-three-houses\/\">Fire Emblem: Three Houses<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>gives\u00a0<em>BotW\u00a0<\/em>a run for its money when it comes to\u00a0dynamic gameplay, a gripping narrative, and rewarding progression.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<em>Fire Emblem\u00a0<\/em>fans are aware, this <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fire-emblem-three-houses-recommendations-games\/\">tactical series is more similar<\/a> to the likes of\u00a0<em>Ogre Battle\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy Tactics <\/em>on the gameplay front.
