While some\u00a0fans\u00a0will certainly choose to play just the single-player offerings found in\u00a0Madden<\/strong> NFL 21<\/strong><\/em>, many others will want to experience its\u00a0various multiplayer modes. For those players that wish to try out these multiplayer modes online, questions about the possibility for cross-play in\u00a0Madden NFL 21<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>may arise, and indeed Electronic Arts has been very clear on\u00a0if the title will support this feature.<\/p>\n

More specifically, an EA Community Manager confirmed\u00a0last month that\u00a0Madden NFL 21\u00a0<\/em>does not have cross-play functionality. This means that PS4, Xbox One, and PC players<\/a> will not be able to compete against one another online,\u00a0and they will instead need to find games with others that are playing on their chosen platform.<\/p>\n

Additionally, it has been indicated\u00a0that\u00a0Madden NFL 21\u00a0<\/em>will not support cross-play with next gen consoles<\/a> either. As such, PS4 players\u00a0should not expect to be hitting the field with those on PS5, nor should Xbox One players plan\u00a0on squaring\u00a0off against those with\u00a0the Xbox Series X. This is perhaps the more surprising part of\u00a0Madden 21<\/em>‘s cross-play support, or lack thereof, though it is\u00a0exactly in line\u00a0with what EA is doing with another of its upcoming sports titles.<\/p>\n

That title is\u00a0FIFA 21<\/em><\/a>, and indeed it is now confirmed that it will also not support cross-play or cross-generational play.\u00a0It seems then that players can expect this to be the standard for EA sports games through the releases of Sony and Microsoft’s new consoles, though perhaps things will change further into the lifespans of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.<\/p>\n

One final thing that players may be interested to know about\u00a0Madden NFL 21\u00a0<\/em>is that its Smart Delivery is somewhat restricted. For the uninitiated, Smart Delivery will allow players that own certain titles on Xbox One to upgrade those games to the Xbox Series X versions free of charge. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla<\/em>, Cyberpunk 2077<\/em>, and Halo: Infinite<\/em> are all among the games confirmed for Smart Delivery<\/a> at the time of writing, and fans that are planning to upgrade their consoles can thus purchase those titles for Xbox One without much concern.<\/p>\n

Things are slightly different with\u00a0Madden NFL 21<\/em>, though, as it will not be eligible for a Smart Delivery upgrade after\u00a0Madden NFL 22\u00a0<\/em>release next year. While this is unlikely to affect a great number of players, since many will transition to the newest entry in the series at that point, it is something that Madden<\/em> fans<\/a> may still want to take into consideration.<\/p>\n

Madden NFL 21<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0releases on August 28, 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One with future releases planned for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.<\/p>\n
