Call of Duty: Modern Warfare<\/strong><\/em> and Warzone<\/em> will have\u00a0new content to enjoy when the Modern Warfare<\/em> Season 5 Reloaded update<\/a>\u00a0releases tonight, including new modes, a new weapon, and a new playable operator. One of the biggest draws for Season 5 Reloaded is a Gunfight Tournament that will be available to everyone through a playlist as part of the first-person shooter’s free access weekend scheduled August 28 to September 2.<\/p>\n

The last\u00a0Gunfight Tournament in Modern Warfare<\/em> happened this July<\/a>, offering players the chance to earn\u00a0rewards such as special\u00a0weapon blueprints for advancing through multiple\u00a02v2 battles with pre-determined loadouts. The newest tournament is the third hosted\u00a0in 2020, with victors able to win XP, high-tier cosmetics, and “bragging rights,” according to the Activision Games Blog.<\/p>\n

Another big draw to this Gunfight Tournament, which has ties to Modern Warfare<\/em>‘s upcoming Games of Summer event<\/a>\u00a0testing players on skills like parkour and precision shooting, is a brand-new map. Some matches will take place on the pitch within Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em>‘s Verdansk Stadium. This will be a smaller play space than usual, according to Activision, so to compensate there will be obstacles like tents and crates all around for players to use as cover.<\/p>\n

Because access to the Gunfight Tournament will be free this upcoming weekend, Activision says it will be good to enter, “If you have a friend that hasn’t tried the full version of Modern Warfare<\/em><\/a>\u00a0or are a Warzone<\/em> player looking to hone your skills.” Though the specific cosmetic rewards available through the tournament have\u00a0not been specified, Activision describes them as “prestigious.”<\/p>\n

As part of the Season 5 Reloaded update, players can also expect new content specific to the battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone<\/em>. Activision announced Warzone<\/em>‘s King Slayer game mode<\/a> in its blog post today, which sets players in\u00a0a large-scale Team Deathmatch where the circle of deadly gas that typically encroaches on one spot\u00a0will instead move around the map.<\/p>\n

Activision has been emphasizing its battle royale title as time goes on, with plans to reveal Treyarch and Raven Software’s\u00a0Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em> in Warzone<\/em><\/a> this Wednesday. However, it will likely be a little while before that game releases, which should give fans of the franchise plenty of time to dive into content like Modern Warfare<\/em>‘s free access\u00a0Gunfight Tournament.<\/p>\n
