Following several convincing leaks and rumors,\u00a0Pokemon\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>fans are convinced that they’ll be returning to\u00a0Diamond\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Pearl\u00a0<\/em>in a large-scale remake sometime in the next few years. It’s not entirely unbelievable either, with the game’s previous mainline entries,\u00a0Pokemon Sun\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<\/a>Moon<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>being followed by remakes of\u00a0Ruby\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Sapphire\u00a0<\/em>back in 2014.<\/p>\n

However, a new leak claims that, while\u00a0Pokemon\u00a0<\/em>fans are on the right lines, the next major entry in the storied franchise won’t be a remake of\u00a0Diamond\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<\/a>Pearl<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>That being said, the game will apparently still take place in the Sinnoh region, meaning it could act as something of a successor to the incredibly popular Generation 4 releases.<\/p>\n

Of course, it goes without saying that fans should take the forthcoming rumor with a grain of salt, especially as\u00a0Pokemon\u00a0<\/em>seems to be more focused on\u00a0Sword\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Shield’s\u00a0<\/em>DLC<\/a> rather than the next game in the franchise. It’s also sourced from 4chan, which has a history of\u00a0sharing\u00a0baseless rumors. That being said, the leak claims that the next two games in the franchise will be known as\u00a0Pokemon Gears of Eternity\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Orbs of Infinity,\u00a0<\/em>following the same format as\u00a0previous mainline entries in the franchise and offering two\u00a0alternate copies of the game. As aforementioned, trainers will journey back to the Sinnoh region, although things will be slightly different this time around.<\/p>\n

For one, gyms will be stripped from the game, although there will be type specialists that fulfill the same role. Initially, this does seem like an unrealistic departure from the series coveted formula, however, the games have been trying to distance themselves more from the typical gym archetype first introduced in the originals.\u00a0Sword\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Shield,<\/em>\u00a0for example,\u00a0<\/em>replaced gyms\u00a0with arena battles, while\u00a0Sun\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Moon\u00a0<\/em>offered “Island Challenges” instead. The leak does claim that the\u00a0Elite Four will return<\/a> though, and type specialists will allegedly be split into two teams, with one using Megas and the other using Dynamax.<\/p>\n

Although it seems wise to assume that the leak is false until\u00a0Pokemon<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>sees fit to comment more on the series’ next entry, it no doubt starts an interesting conversation about what fans\u00a0would like to see from future entries in the franchise. For all the praise\u00a0Sword\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Shield\u00a0<\/em>received, it seemed many had pressing issues with the game, noting that the formula is quickly becoming stale and uninteresting. Others were quick to level criticism at the\u00a0titles’\u00a0low difficulty and lack of visual quality as well. Hopefully, whatever\u00a0Pokemon’s\u00a0<\/em>next release is, it will acknowledge and look to fix these flaws.<\/p>\n
