These are the rarest PS2 games and how much they&#8217;re currently worth.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Updated on August 25, 2020 by Elise Nelson<\/strong><\/em>: <em>The next-generation PlayStation, the PS5, is headed our way by this year&#8217;s holiday season. There&#8217;s no better time to take a look back at Sony&#8217;s previous iconic consoles and the stellar games that came with them. One of the more popular consoles from the line was the PS2, which carried not only awesome mainstream titles like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-of-war-kratos-video-game-villains-defeat\/\">God of War<\/a> II but also some pretty amazing rare gems. Hardcore collectors may want to get their hands on these titles, but they will cost a pretty penny.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">15 <\/span>Dragon Blaze &#8211; $100-250<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Dragon-Blaze-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Dragon Blaze<\/em> was originally released exclusively in Japan before seeing a limited release as a budget title in Europe. Due to its status as a budget title, the game never received a wide release and is increasingly hard to find. However, we ARE on the internet, and anything can be found on the internet. Even <em>Dragon Blaze<\/em>, believe it or not. It&#8217;s not rare to see copies of this game going for $100 on eBay, and new and sealed copies can fetch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/173920323542\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">as much as $250<\/a>. It&#8217;s not a lot compared to some of the others on this list, but for a video game, it&#8217;s still a pricey purchase!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">14 <\/span>Wizardry: Tale Of The Foresaken Land &#8211; $800+<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Wizardry-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>We know what you&#8217;re thinking &#8211; what in the heck is\u00a0<em>Wizardry: Tale of the Foresaken Land<\/em>!? And to that, we say &#8220;exactly.&#8221; This was a little video game released by Japanese developer Racjin back in 2001. It was also published by Atlus, a company well known for releasing video games in small runs. Small runs means rarity resulting in insane value. It&#8217;s not rare to find a copy of this game online for $30 or so, although a new, sealed copy is much less common. A brand new copy of this game can fetch\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Wizardry-Forsaken-Land-Playstation-2\/dp\/B00005RCPT\">as much as $110<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">13 <\/span>The King Of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match &#8211; $151<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/King-of-Fighters-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Serving as the ninth game in the main series,\u00a0<em>The King of Fighters 2002<\/em>\u00a0was released for the Neo Geo before being parted to the PlayStation 2 two years later.\u00a0 A remake of the game, titled\u00a0<em>Unlimited Match<\/em>, was published exclusively in Japan in 2009. Imagine that &#8211; people were still playing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/top-10-playstation-2-games\/\">PlayStation 2 games<\/a>\u00a0in 2009! This particular version of the game is exceedingly hard to find and is rarely sold on eBay. That said, it does appear from time to time. Used copies of the game can fetch\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/p\/1702875749\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">as much as $150<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">12 <\/span>Samurai Western &#8211; $189<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/maxresdefault-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Samurai Western is a 2005 action-adventure title from Acquire. A samurai named Gojiro Kiryu travels to the Wild West to look for his brother, Rando. There are multiple stages that can be played alone or with a friend, and difficulty settings range from Normal to Insane. The game received mostly mixed reviews, but it remains one of the more popular Japanese games.<\/p>\n<p>Because it&#8217;s a bit more difficult to come across in the U.S., the game will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/Samurai-Western-Sony-ps2-Factory-sealed-possible-loose-disc-inside-\/164352930869?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c1#viTabs_0\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cost around $189<\/a> if unopened.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">11 <\/span>.hack Quarantine &#8211; $250<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Quarantine-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>The <em>.hack<\/em> video games are a series of action RPGs developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Bandai. <em>.hack Quarantine<\/em> was released in North America in 2004 and received mixed reviews, with some claiming that it wrapped up the series in a beautiful way while others called it plodding and confusing. Regardless of your opinion on the quality of the game, it is selling for quite a pretty penny today. Brand new copies of the game have been seen selling for as much as $250 on eBay, and used copies can even fetch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pricecharting.com\/game\/playstation-2\/hack-quarantine\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">upwards of $150<\/a>!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Blood Will Tell &#8211; $190-700<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Blood-Will-Tell-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Based on the manga <em>Dororo<\/em>, <em>Blood Will Tell<\/em> is a samurai-themed beat-em-up developed by Sega and released in 2004. Things get really interesting when we look at the brand new, sealed copies, as those can go for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pricecharting.com\/game\/playstation-2\/blood-will-tell\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">as much as $700<\/a>! Not bad for a video game no one played&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Garfield: Saving Arlene &#8211; $250-350<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Garfield-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Now who would have thought that a video game called <em>Garfield: Saving Arlene<\/em> would be known as one of the most\u00a0valuable\u00a0PS2 games of all time? Such is the power of Garfield! This PAL release is exceedingly rare. In fact, it is likely the rarest video game ever released for the PlayStation 2! That said, it&#8217;s not as valuable as that distinction may suggest (probably because no one cares). Two copies appeared on eBay in 2019, selling for $100 and $250.\u00a0A sealed copy even sold for $350 at some point in time, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pricecharting.com\/\">pricecharting.com<\/a>!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 &#8211; $238<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/MVC-2-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>You may not think it, but\u00a0<em>Marvel vs. Capcom 2<\/em>\u00a0is actually worth quite a lot of money! Serving as the fourth installment in the iconic\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ps2-playstation-2-games-aged-well-held-up-havent\/\"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom<\/em><\/a>\u00a0series, this game featured a ton of new features, including three-on-three gameplay and a simpler control scheme.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-capcom-games-worst\/\">The 5 Best Capcom Games (&amp; The 5 Worst)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Despite receiving good reviews, Capcom subsequently lost the license to publish Marvel characters and the series embarked on an extended hiatus. Maybe it&#8217;s due to the unfortunate history behind the game, but either way, sealed copies of\u00a0<em>Marvel vs. Capcom 2<\/em>\u00a0are fetching upwards of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Marvel-vs-Capcom-2-PC\/dp\/B00006LEM1\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$200 on Amazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Futurama &#8211; $345<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/maxresdefault-1-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>This 3-D platformer based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/10-awesome-ps2-games-never-remade-already\/\">original\u00a0<em>Futurama<\/em> cartoon<\/a> series boasts cutscenes that form a &#8220;long lost&#8221; episode. Players take on the roles of Fry, Bender, Leela, and Zoidberg as they shoot their way through various enemies to help the Sun People and build a time machine. The show was canceled in 2003, but the game had already been in development, so it was released after the cancelation.<\/p>\n<p>Because the show didn&#8217;t seem to be doing well, the developers only printed a few copies. Of course, the series was picked back up a few years later, yet the PS2 game remains a collector&#8217;s item. It can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/offer-listing\/B000095ZH4\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amazon for $345<\/a> and up.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Dragon Ball Z:\u00a0Budokai Tenkaichi 3 &#8211; $400<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/maxresdefault-2.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>This is the third and final installment in the <em>Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi<\/em> series. The game features 98 characters in 161 forms, which is the largest roster in the entire franchise. The<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-wrestling-games-ps2\/\"> fighting game<\/a> has several new stages and new combo attacks. This particular installment did not receive great reviews or see many sales.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the poor sales, Budokai Tenkaichi 3 became a collector&#8217;s item over time, and it is now worth <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/NEW-Dragon-Ball-Z-Budokai-Tenkaichi-3-Playstation-2-Unopened-Sealed-\/372971052143?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c1#viTabs_0\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">around $400<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Haunting Ground &#8211; $435-1000<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Haunting-Ground-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Haunting Ground<\/em> is a Japanese survival horror game that shares a lot in common with the <em>Clock Tower<\/em> series. Unlike that series, <em>Haunting Ground<\/em> received mixed reviews and never really found an audience. Critics lauded the graphics, overall presentation, and the unique player-avatar relationship with protagonist Fiona, but they still found the game too derivative of past survival horror titles (&#8230;like <em>Clock Tower<\/em>). The game is now quite a collector&#8217;s item, and a sealed copy can fetch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/offer-listing\/B0007WWYLY\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">upwards of $400<\/a> on Amazon.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Kuon &#8211; $400-700<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Kuon-Cropped-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>As you can see, the price of <em>Kuon<\/em> tends to jump quite a bit, depending on a variety of factors. <em>Kuon<\/em> is another <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/best-underrated-ps2-games\/\">survival horror video game<\/a>, and it was actually developed by <em>Dark Souls<\/em>&#8216; FromSoftware. This has certainly helped raise its value over the years, as did its limited release and poor sales outside of Japan. Copies of <em>Kuon<\/em> are certainly not cheap, and even a used copy can fetch as much as $300. But when it comes to factory sealed copies, <em>Kuon<\/em> can jump anywhere between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pricecharting.com\/game\/playstation-2\/kuon\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$400 and $700<\/a>, making it one of the priciest (and rarest) video games released for the PS2!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Ibara &#8211; $500<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/maxresdefault-3.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Ibara is a Japanese side-scrolling shooter that is said to be a spiritual successor to 8ing\/Raizing&#8217;s\u00a0<i>Battle Garegga<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Battle Bakraid.\u00a0<\/i>As the players proceeds, they will acquire more items and do more damage, but the game increases in difficulty by way of bullets per second.<\/p>\n<p>There aren&#8217;t too many copies of Cave&#8217;s shooter, and the ones that were released remained in Japan. Getting your hands on a copy likely means paying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pricecharting.com\/game\/jp-playstation-2\/ibara?q=ibara\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">upwards of $500<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Ocean Commander &#8211; $575<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/maxresdefault-4.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p>Ocean Commander is primarily known as a Wii game, but there is a rarer PS2 version out there. The game follows a special arms commander in the underwater world who must protect the territory using military force.<\/p>\n<p>Although it is a Dutch title, the PS2 version of Ocean Commander was released only in Italy when they suffered economically and citizens were looking for cheap games. Unfortunately, the exclusive is not so cheap today. It sells for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/Ocean-Commander-ps2-Playstation-2-PAL-game-COLLECTORS-GoogleHow-RARE-PAL-\/254263179364\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$575 on eBay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Rule Of Rose &#8211; $1800<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Rule-of-Rose-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Rule of Rose<\/em> is yet another survival horror game, developed by Punchline and published in North America by Atlus USA in 2006. It was actually the subject of a huge moral panic in Europe, as\u00a0rumors quickly spread that the game contained elements of sadomasochism, brutal violence against children, and &#8220;underage eroticism.&#8221; Despite finding these complaints &#8220;nonsense,&#8221; the game was banned from the United Kingdom.
