These rare Dragons should come in handy now that Mega Charizard X is appearing in Raids. Players\u00a0hoping to defeat the Kantonian starter should prepare to\u00a0Raid with at least\u00a0two other decently leveled Trainers\u00a0to\u00a0succeed.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-go-mega-discovery-special-research\/\">Pokemon GO: A Mega Discovery Special Research Is Live in the Game<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mega Charizard X,\u00a0is a Fire\/Dragon type Pokemon, and one of the first <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-go-mega-evolutions-list\/\">five available Mega Pokemon in\u00a0<em>Pokemon GO<\/em><\/a>. To obtain the Pokemon, players\u00a0must gather 200 Charizard Mega Energy by completing Mega Raid Battles, and then spend\u00a0the energy on one of their Charizards.\u00a0Its Fire\/Dragon-typing\u00a0means that it is weak to Ground, Rock, and Dragon-type Attacks, but\u00a0players should take particular note: Charizard X\u00a0<strong>is not <\/strong>weak to Electric-types, like Charizard, because it is no longer a Flying-type. In fact, its Dragon-typing gives it resistance to Electric Pokemon, so do beware old habits. On the other hand, its loss of Flying as a type makes it\u00a0conveniently susceptible to Ground-type moves, so players can lean into that instead.<\/p>\n<p>Charizard X currently has a decently varied spread of moves at its disposal, though the majority of its options are Fire-type. It can appear with Air Slash (Flying) as a Fast Move, and more notably, with Dragon Claw as a Charged Move, so players should be cautious to include Dragon-type counters. Bearing this in mind, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamer.com\/pokemon-ugliest-cutest-ground-types\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">often overlooked Ground-type Pokemon<\/a> will probably be\u00a0best against Mega Charizard X.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CEewUqGFIXB\/?igshid=1xgy2d1ma8veo\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Sadly, none of the rewards from the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-go-mega-discovery-special-research-tasks-rewards\/\">new <em>Pokemon GO\u00a0<\/em>Special Research Challenge<\/a> are helpful in this case, but nonetheless, some of the more powerful counters to Mega Charizard X include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rayquaza (Dragon Tail\/Outrage)<\/li>\n<li>Salamence (Dragon Tail\/Outrage)<\/li>\n<li>Groudon (Mud Shot\/Earthquake)<\/li>\n<li>Rampardos (Smack Down\/Rock Slide)<\/li>\n<li>Tyranitar (Smack Down\/Stone Edge)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Players are encouraged to exploit Mega Charizard X&#8217;s new weakness to Ground and challenge it with earthy powerhouses like Groudon. That being said, less Legendary options, like Rampardos or Tyranitar, are more than viable. It may not be the optimal counter, but players can also use the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-go-best-mega-blastoise-counters\/\">fierce Water-type\u00a0Mega Blastoise<\/a> to defeat Mega Charizard &#8211; if anything, it would make for a memorable showdown. Either way, the important thing\u00a0to focus on is a Pokemon&#8217;s move set, not its typing.\u00a0A\u00a0Groudon with Solar Beam instead of Earthquake, for example, would no longer be\u00a0an impressive counter.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, it also seems that once players have evolved their Charizard into\u00a0Mega Charizard X once, they\u00a0will still need to spend another 200 Mega Energy obtaining Mega Charizard Y before the Mega Evolution discount registers.\u00a0That said, players can currently mitigate this by using a <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-go-mega-energy-trading-loophole\/\">Mega Evolution workaround involving trading<\/a>.
