Xbox fans will, at least in retrospect, fondly recall partnership between the console gaming brand and snacks like Doritos and Mountain Dew. The advertising partnership was even in effect as recently as 2017, when Doritos and Mountain Dew<\/a> products could reward purchasers with an Xbox Series X. It seems Doritos has since moved on, though, as new Doritos bags in Europe are showing that the chips company is now partnered with PlayStation and is offering PS5<\/strong>s as prizes.<\/p>\n

Reddit user KennyImmortalized posted their discovery on Reddit, the PS5<\/a> subreddit to be specific. Titled “Doritos PS5 giveaway ads are here” and a photo of the Doritos bag is provided in the body of the submission.\u00a0“First time seeing it in Europe,” is what they add in text to the post, followed by a question to see if anyone in the USA has seen something similar. No more details are provided, though nothing more is really necessary to prove the veracity of the claim, though. The Doritos back speaks for itself.<\/p>\n

It’s a Sweet Chili Pepper flavor of Doritos, though it isn’t clear if that matters. “WIN* a PlayStation 5” and “2000+ PlayStation Prizes” are promised on the bag, written in both Dutch and French. Then the logo for the PS5 is at the bottom of the bag, though there’s also the profile of a DualSense controller<\/a> shown. It certainly appears legitimate, or at least doesn’t provide any reason to suspect its false.\u00a0 Of course, the PS5 isn’t actually available yet, but that doesn’t mean the prizes won’t be delivered later this year.<\/p>\n

This would seem to be the first direct official partnership between PlayStation and Doritos, which is quite the steal considering Doritos’ long history with Xbox. Doritos has definitely partnered with products that are PlayStation targeted in the recent past, though. Partnerships like with Call of Duty<\/em> games<\/a>, games that typically also partner with PlayStation.<\/p>\n

While the Doritos and PlayStation advertising partnership is certainly interesting, particularly due to Doritos’ work with Xbox, it isn’t actually anything significant. Obviously, PlayStation is dominating Xbox when it comes to console sales<\/a>, so it’s perfectly understandable for any product to want to partner with the brand. It doesn’t imply any slight to Xbox whatsoever.<\/p>\n

The one question left to answer is whether or not Doritos will be bringing the PS5 giveaway promotion<\/a> to the United States as well. There are guaranteed to be a lot of gamers looking to score a PS5 this holiday season, which likely means a lot of Doritos sales.<\/p>\n
