Ever since EA confirmed it had a couple of “HD Remakes” in the works, evidence has surfaced that seemingly indicate one of them is the Mass Effect Remastered Trilogy.<\/strong><\/em> Fans have looked for it at numerous events to no avail, though, while many speculate the announcement would come on N7 Day. However, the latest reports indicate that the Mass Effect Remastered Trilogy <\/em>reveal<\/a>\u00a0could actually take place in October and release in the same month, barring delays (such is 2020).<\/p>\n

If so, this is big not just for the fans who have been waiting for this for years, but it’s a big step for BioWare. It’s no secret that it has a busy few years ahead, what with Dragon Age 4,<\/em> an Anthem<\/em> overhaul, and Mass Effect 5<\/em> in the works<\/a>. Normally, new iterations of DA<\/em> and ME<\/em> would excited anyone, but many are cautious and for good reason.<\/p>\n

It’s no secret that BioWare’s latest games have left a sour taste in many’s mouths. Although Andromeda<\/em> has improved by leaps and bounds, including a warm reception for Andromed<\/em>a on Steam<\/a>, many saw its initial launch as the start of a downward slope for BioWare. Anthem<\/em> raised hopes that this wouldn’t be the case pre-release, but after release, it was more critically panned than every Andromeda<\/em>. In the past, BioWare had been a name up there with the likes of Obsidian and Bethesda, recognized as the studio behind Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Knights of the Old Republic<\/em>, and so much more.<\/p>\n

But recent years haven’t been as kind, and BioWare has lost the trust of fans the world over. Nonetheless, it likely looks to correct this with the aforementioned projects. Anthem<\/em> had a lot of unique qualities and potential, so the overhaul needs to bring that game to its full potential. After the ending of Inquisition<\/em> and the lingering hatred for Solas, Dragon Age 4<\/em><\/a> has a lot of solid groundwork to build from. And Mass Effect 5<\/em> has nearly endless possibilities to bring the franchise back to its former glory. There’s only one problem: these projects are in various stages of development, putting Anthem, DA4<\/em>, and ME5<\/em>, respectively, further and further away from release.<\/p>\n

Instead of waiting for 2-3 years on Dragon Age<\/em> or 5-6 on Mass Effect <\/em>to bring BioWare back to glory, the launch of a remastered Mass Effect Trilogy<\/em><\/a> is more than enough to start that journey back to the top. It would be hard to go wrong with this trilogy getting re-released, and it could be the first step to a successful series of new games. 2020, for all its faults, also has something promising for BioWare: the “end” of a generation.<\/p>\n

Sure, both current-gen consoles will be supported for the next couple of years, but games and fans will be eyeing new consoles for the time to come. Those who don’t take the leap this fall will likely take the leap at some point, so waiting any longer to release this remaster would likely be detrimental, depending on its platforms. Regardless, releasing the Mass Effect Remastered Trilogy<\/em> this October would be the perfect “end” for BioWare on this console generation, leaving behind a better impression than that of Andromeda<\/em> and Anthem<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Of course, there’s a lot in the air and it may not be until early 2021, or it may not even happen at all. If it did, though, Mass Effect Trilogy<\/em> would be ending 2020 with a much-needed bang for BioWare<\/a>.<\/p>\n
