Darksiders 4<\/strong><\/em> has not been announced and may not be for quite some time, but if is indeed in some stage of development, there’s one question it has to answer: will this be a mainline game focused on Strife, although he appeared in the Darksiders Genesis<\/em>, or will it finally continue (and end) a story ten years in the making.<\/p>\n

Darksiders<\/em><\/a> ended with War summoning his brethren, preparing to battle the Council, Heaven, and Hell for the schemes and happenings of the world. But Darksiders 2, Darksiders 3<\/em>, and Darksiders Genesis<\/em> either take place before or during War’s imprisonment, therefore not continuing the story set up by the first game. Many would agree it’s time that Darksiders<\/em> delivered the 4 horseman co-op game<\/a> fans have been wanting to see, but that’s not as easy as it sounds.<\/p>\n

The original Darksiders<\/em> released in 2010, making it 10 full years since his plot device was set up. It makes sense that each horsemen would be set up with a similar story, as many were glad to get to know Death and, eventually, Fury. The original two games have even received remastered versions, while a spin-off game titled Darksiders Genesis<\/em> has also been released. But ideally the follow-up game could bring all of these together, and given how much time has passed between Darksiders 2<\/em><\/a> and 3<\/em> in real life, bringing all of this into the story is not going to be a simple task.<\/p>\n

War’s vengeance against the Charred Council, as well as somehow restoring balance to the broken world has to be key. However, Death’s sacrifice was a big decision in Darksiders 2<\/em>, one that would reflect on the future of Humanity and the Nephilim. Being resurrected yet ignoring all of this wouldn’t likely sit well with his fans, while Fury has become a protector of Humanity, has ferried them away to safety, and may yet hold the key to the Council’s defeat. Strife shares the spot light with his brother, and it would be hard to pinpoint his exact role in the story, but that’s a lot to juggle in a normal development cycle. On top of all that is Lucifer’s role in the story, as he has been teased multiple times, but perhaps no more so than he was in Darksiders Genesis<\/em><\/a> and DS2.<\/p>\n

The time span between the first game and a game that ends the story, presumably Darksiders 4<\/em>, makes it even worse. There’s so many juggling parts that the execution has to be surprising and powerful to bring everything together. It’s certainly not impossible, but it’s a hurdle with everything that has happened in the franchise, as ignoring even one game basically nullifies the history leading up to this point. On the other hand, while the game could be a mainline one focused on Strife<\/a> and what he potentially did after Darksiders 3<\/em> just further delays the ultimate conclusion.<\/p>\n

Continuing the story, or effectively ending it, has been building up for years, but doing so is no simple feat for Darksiders 4<\/em>. It’s something many fans may want, but it’s also something that may falter under its own expectation. For now, the future of the horsemen remains in the air and what comes next is just mere speculation.<\/p>\n
