Fortnite<\/em><\/strong> is no stranger to crossovers with popular franchises, but with the newest season of Chapter 2 comes its biggest crossover yet. Season 4 is entirely focused on Marvel and its universe of heroes and villains, complete with plenty of Marvel-themed locations and challenges<\/a> tied to the new character skins based on the likes of Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Doom, and more.<\/p>\n

What the casual Fortnite<\/em> player might not know, however, is that Marvel has also been hyping the crossover on its end with a promotional comic tying Season 4\u2019s \u201cNexus War<\/em>\u201d to the events of its ongoing Thor<\/em> comic<\/a>, created by the same artistic team. The current arc of that comic has seen Thor become the herald for the planet-devouring Galactus in an effort to help him gain the power to stop the Black Winter, a devourer of universes. The tie-in comic continues off this plotline by having Galactus\u00a0set his sights on\u00a0Fortnite<\/em>\u2019s island in order to gain its infinite cosmic power, leading Thor to rally friends like Captain America and Storm to prevent it from getting eaten.<\/p>\n

It\u2019d be easy to think the Nexus War<\/em> comic is supposed to be nothing more than a disposable ad, as most tie-in comics of this sort tend to be, but apparently that\u2019s not the case. According to Marvel Comics editor Mark Basso, Fortnite<\/em><\/a> is definitely part of the Marvel universe.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the most exciting things about the crossover is how naturally it keeps a foot both in Fortnite<\/em> and the Marvel Universe,\u201d Marvel Comics editor Mark Basso said in a statement celebrating the launch of Season 4<\/a>. \u201cWe had a lot of great creative discussions between Marvel and Epic Games about where our storylines could cross over naturally, and seeing how prime a target the Fortnite Island would be for Galactus, who [Thor<\/em> writer] Donny Cates had already been exploring in his Thor<\/em> series, set the whole thing into motion.\u201d<\/p>\n

On one hand, it\u2019s not much of a stretch to imagine Fortnite<\/em>\u2019s world existing somewhere in the vast multiverse of Marvel comics. On the other, though, it raises some interesting questions about some of the game\u2019s other crossovers. Does this mean DC is now canon in the Marvel-verse thanks to the Batman and Harley Quinn skins Fortnite<\/em> has featured<\/a>? What about Star Wars<\/em>, or John Wick<\/em>, or Stranger Things<\/em>, or Borderlands<\/em>? Technically, it\u2019s possible.<\/p>\n

Whether this collaboration opens the door for an official Fortnite<\/em> comic book happening someday remains to be seen. For now, Marvel has announced that it will continue pushing the crossover with Fortnite<\/em>-themed variant covers for a number of its upcoming books<\/a>. At any rate, it\u2019s something else to chew on for those trying to wrap their heads around the fact that Peely the banana man is now part of the Avengers\u2019 canon.<\/p>\n

Fortnite<\/em><\/strong> is free-to-play for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.<\/p>\n
