Where <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X3 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stated that X &amp; Zero we\u2019re destined to fight and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> formally brought Dr. Wily into the sub-series\u2019 story, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X5<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> brought it all to a conclusion. While <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X5 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">would ultimately be followed up by three more games, the final product still feels like the end of an era.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X5 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is littered with countless references to classic <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/mega-man\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the original <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> games. It\u2019s very much a love letter to the franchise <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rockman<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has become by that point. As the intended final entry in the series, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X5 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">features three multiple endings to cap off the story\u2013 one of which even directly leads into the events of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man Legends<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, tying everything <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rockman <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">together. Unfortunately, seeing all three endings <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has on tap requires a fair bit of RNG.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/megaman-x-armor-capsule-locations\/\">Mega Man X: Every Armor Location (&amp; What They Do)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Easily the game\u2019s most controversial mechanic, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/capcom\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X5 <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">features an RNG system tied directly to Zero\u2019s survival. Whether or not the Enigma destroys the Colony is truly left up to chance, and its failure can directly lead into a scenario where Zero is no longer playable &amp; players are stuck with an X they haven\u2019t used all game. Still, it\u2019s this very RNG that makes <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X5<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s story as tense as it is. Losing Zero is a realistic consequence, and a rather morbid one at that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the original finale to the sub-series, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X5<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has the best endings in the franchise\u2013 bringing a landmark gaming story arc to a close. Of course, seeing each ending requires more than a single playthrough, so get ready to commit to one of the densest <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">games ever made.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Zero\u2019s Ending<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/X5-Zero.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero only has one ending in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X5<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as him turning Maverick and losing his playable status is the trigger for X\u2019s bad ending. To avoid Zero going Maverick, RNG either needs to ensure the Enigma destroys the Colony or that Zero\u2019s suicide mission plays out as best it can. Should Zero remain intact come the final set of stages, he\u2019ll be able to fight X and later Sigma.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X and Zero\u2019s battle is noticeably sadder with Zero in control, the focus given to the personal character drama between them. It\u2019s also far more novel to fight X, who actually uses several of his <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> abilities\u2013 indicating he\u2019s perpetually holding back during regular gameplay. After defeating X, Zero challenges Sigma alone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/megaman-x-sub-tank-locations\/\">Mega Man X: Every Sub-Tank Location &amp; How To Get Them<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero is able to defeat Sigma, but he takes significant damage in the process. X stumbles upon Zero\u2019s decapitated body, but is shot by Sigma in the process. With the last of his strength, Zero fires a blast at Sigma that seemingly kills him once and for all. As Zero lay dying, his senses start to malfunction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero flashes back to his first encounter with Sigma, Dr. Wily, and even Iris\u2013 his love interest from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X4 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he was forced to kill. Zero\u2019s ending closes out with his life slowly and simply fading away.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>X\u2019s Good Ending<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/X-and-ZEro.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X\u2019s good ending fills in the gaps of Zero\u2019s ending while also serving as a reversal. The ending is achieved if Zero doesn\u2019t go Maverick and players head through the final stages as X. X tries to arrest Zero, the two fight to the death, and X fights Sigma in Zero\u2019s place. After the fight with Sigma, there\u2019s some overlap with Zero\u2019s ending.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero is seen half dead (realistically because of X this time) and X is still shot by Sigma, but the rest of the ending is seen from X\u2019s perspective while also continuing past this point. Dr. Light\u2019s Cyber-Elf finds X\u2019s nearly destroyed body and rebuilds him. When X awakens, he returns to his job as a Maverick Hunter, now determined to honor Zero.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mega-man-x-command-mission-party-member-worst-best-ranked\/\">Mega Man X: Command Mission: Every Party Member From Worst To Best, Ranked<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X notably wields Zero\u2019s Z-Saber, bringing it with him into his next mission. While <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man X6<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would set itself three weeks after <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X5<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s good ending, the ending was written with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man Zero <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in mind. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X5 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&amp; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero 1 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were actually in production at the same time, and the intent was for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X5 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to connect into <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero 1<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X would have turned evil in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero 1<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s original draft, but the game was ultimately rewritten so the antagonistic X was a copy. This works out nicely, however, as the good X is the one who gives Zero his Z-Saber back at the beginning of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero 1<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>X\u2019s Bad Ending<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Dr-Ligbt.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X\u2019s bad ending is arguably the easiest to get as players simply need every single thing to go wrong in their playthrough. Take advantage of the bad RNG by firing the Enigma immediately, more or less guaranteeing failure. Once Zero turns Maverick, he\u2019ll be out of commission and players will be taking control of X for the rest of the game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X\u2019s fight with Zero in his bad ending is far more emotional than their good ending battle, with friends forced to fight against their will. Or in Zero\u2019s case, because of his nature. It\u2019s a sad reframing of X and Zero\u2019s relationship, but X is forced to put Zero down. X actually kills Zero in this case, heading into the fight against Sigma alone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X manages to defeat Sigma, but is left near-dead. Dr. Light finds X like he does in the good ending, but Zero\u2019s death spurs Dr. Light to rebuild X without any memories of Zero. Without the weight of Zero\u2019s death on his shoulders, X turns his attention to creating his own personal utopia: Elysium.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While this is often seen as evidence that the bad ending was meant to lead into <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero 1<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Elysium is a direct reference to the world of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mega Man Legends<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Thematically, X\u2019s motivation in the bad ending simply shows where Copy X\u2019s idea for Neo Arcadia came from. It\u2019s in X\u2019s nature to want to create a paradise.
