For a couple of hours thousands of viewers watched Twitch&#8217;s stream for\u00a0the Chat&#8217;s Choice Awards, believing that it had managed to\u00a0get\u00a0an actual PlayStation 5 for the event. It turned out to be expert level trolling.<\/p>\n<p>Around 30k viewers watched the stream, as\u00a0what appeared to be a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/playstation-5\/\">PlayStation 5<\/a> sat in the background. The stream&#8217;s hosts Mari Takahashi and Day9 even acknowledged its presence near the start of the stream, saying they would talk about the &#8220;Elephant in the room&#8221; later.\u00a0Of course, such a teasing statement spread rapidly, causing viewers to arrive in anticipation of a potential preview.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/playstation-5-live-action-ad-leak\/\">PlayStation 5 Has Live-Action Ad Leaked<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Eventually Mari Takahashi went to get the supposed PlayStation 5, after bringing it closer to the camera she briefly mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ghost-tsushima-player-beats-kojiro-one-hand\/\">samurai action adventure game\u00a0<em>Ghost of Tsushima<\/em><\/a>, and then took a samurai sword to it. Her slicing revealed a tasty looking dessert, rather than expensive hardware, and left Twitch viewers as\u00a0the latest victims of the popular &#8220;Everything is cake&#8221; meme.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Twitch\/status\/1301707812934828032\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Since June, videos showing cakes\u00a0that look\u00a0like everyday objects have gone massively viral, with brands like Adidas even getting in on the meme craze. Parts of the media have called it the perfect craze for COVID-19 lockdowns, while others can actually experience an increase in stress hormones from the confusion. Excited <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/playstation-5-limited-supply\/\">gamers expecting to see a real PlayStation 5<\/a>\u00a0reacted with a mixture of disappointed laughter and irritation at the news\u00a0viewers had been trolled.<\/p>\n<p>Whether the stunt was simply a joke by Twitch to increase stream viewers, or whether it was also a type of product placement from Sony remains unknown, but the PlayStation 5 cake certainly got the attention of the gaming community. In brighter news for those excited about the upcoming console, a recent rumor has suggested that it may launch on November 13, shortly after the expected release of the Xbox Series X, and in time for the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-modern-warfare-burger-town\/\">major holiday games releases such as <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em><\/a> and <em>Cyberpunk 2077<\/em>.
