However, some battles spread throughout the franchise are made incredibly difficult due to their inherent design. The difficulty of some of these battles is so high that many <em>Pok\u00e9mon<\/em> fans remember these battles with a mixture of awe and fear, especially a particularly threatening Miltank from Goldenrod City&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Brock<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Pokemon-Brock.jpeg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back in the day with no access to the internet, it was very uncommon for players to actually know what moves Pok\u00e9mon learned at each level on top of type advantages. Being the first Gym Leader also means that the Brock fight was probably being completed by new players who didn\u2019t know the intricacies of type advantages. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fighting Brock in <em>Pok\u00e9mon\u00a0<\/em><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yellow<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0with a Pikachu and\u00a0another small rodent from Route 1 is incredibly hard. Only a Nidorino with double-kick could reliably get players through this fight, and most people had no idea that was even an option.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Claire<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Claire-pokemon.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dragon-types were harder to deal with back in the old days before Fairy-types. In the Gen 2 games of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gold, Silver, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&amp;\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crystal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with only a couple Ice-types and only two Dragon-type evolutionary lines, players fighting Claire would need Pok\u00e9mon\u00a0capable of dealing and withstanding SERIOUS damage. Being a Water and Dragon-type, Kingdra\u2019s only weakness was other Dragon-type moves. And with only Dratini and Horsea, players didn\u2019t have many options. On top of this, it knows heavy-hitting moves and smokescreen, so good luck hitting the thing;\u00a0for those who manage, good luck surviving Kingdra&#8217;s own crazy attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Whitney<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Whitney-and-Miltank-Pokemon.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anyone who played through <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon Crystal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0remembers a battle that brought a fury like no other down upon unsuspecting players within the third gym. That\u2019s right, Whitney, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/unanswered-questions-about-normal-type-pokemon\/\">Normal-type Gym Leader<\/a>. With a simple Clefairy and Miltank, Whitney brought players to their knees. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clefairy\u2019s Metronome could mean life or death all at the whims of fate. Miltank\u2019s Rollout, stab damage Stomp, and Milk Drink mean that if trainers don\u2019t take out this powerhouse quickly they can expect a thorough thrashing. To top it all off, this is still early enough in the game that players don\u2019t have access to revives other than what they find en-route, so a one-shot Rollout could be devastating.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>May\/Brendan<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/may-brendan.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon Emerald<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-every-generation-story-ranked\/\">the player\u2019s rival<\/a> isn\u2019t incredibly difficult, however, for players hoping to speedrun the game, their third battle can make or break a good time. For <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emerald<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> speedrunners, they need to get to this battle with a level 18 Marshtomp. Unfortunately, this means a double weakness to their Grass-type, Grovyle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Further, they will need to use stat-boosting items to make sure Marshtomp will survive and win the fight, but the only opportunity to do this is while fighting their Wingull. What makes this so difficult is that Wingull knows Supersonic and Growl, both of which can make it impossible for Marshtomp to defeat the rivals Grovyle. Ultimately, it all comes down to luck and which moves Wingull decides to use.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Red<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/pokemon-masters-red-and-charizard-sync-pair.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the hardest fights in any Pok\u00e9mon game is the climactic battle at the end of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon HeartGold <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SoulSilver<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Fighting Red is a surprising challenge that many players assume they\u2019re ready for before spending the time to really research this intense challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Red\u2019s team is such a threat because of its insanely high level. With Pok\u00e9mon between levels 80 and 90, trainers will need to grind (even after beating all of the Kanto gyms) before they\u2019re ready to take on this difficult fight.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Cynthia<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Cynthia-Pokemon-Masters.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In most <em>Pok\u00e9mon<\/em> games, the champion of the region is meant to be the game\u2019s most difficult fight, with varying degrees of success. Well, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon Platinum<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is one game that definitely got this right. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a team not dedicated to any one type, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-generation-ranked-designs\/\">the most powerful Pok\u00e9mon of this generation<\/a>\u00a0in Garchomp, Lucario, Spiritomb, and Togekiss, players really need to watch their backs. Additionally, Cynthia\u2019s team is a very high level, with her Garchomp maxing out at level 78. Overall, her team is just really really good.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Ghetsis<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/pokemon-generations-kyurem-ghetsis.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ghetsis\u2019 party in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon Black and White<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is one of the hardest team\u00a0fights in the franchise. With a generally powerful team that uses real strategies, Ghetsis makes many players quiver. His Eelektross has no weaknesses, his Cofragigus effectively stalls, his Seismitoad can only be stopped by Grass-types, and his Bisharp can only be countered by a solid Fighting-type. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sword-shield-pokemon-water-type-run\/\">Sword &amp; Shield: The Best Pok\u00e9mon For Water-Type Runs (&amp; 5 To Avoid)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The real kickers are his Hydreigon and his Bouffalant. The latter has incredibly powerful attacks and needs to be stopped quickly before it wrecks an entire team, but Hydreigon is an absolute monster. With incredible speed and devastating type coverage, this evil dragon is sure to leave a bad taste in any player\u2019s mouth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Evice<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/evice-pokemon-colosseum.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final boss of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon Coliseum<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is one of the hardest fights in the franchise&#8217;s history. With a 10 level jump from the fight that immediately precedes this boss battle, Evice is one bad man. Additionally, his team absolutely slaps. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With an Intimidate Salamence, a nearly indestructible Scizor, a Machamp with Rockslide and Earthquake, and a Slaking and Slowking that make an absolutely deadly combo with Skill Swap allowing the beefy sloth to attack every turn, Evice makes many trainers cry. Further, with <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-sword-shield-missing-pokemon-generations-350\/\">an incredibly limited selection of Pokemon<\/a>\u00a0throughout the game, this battle is extremely tough.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Ardos &amp; Eldes<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/ardos-eldes-pokemon.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These bad blue and red brothers from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon XD: Gale of Darkness <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are two of the hardest fights in the franchise&#8217;s history. Because they\u2019re about the same though, they can just be lumped together. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What makes them so difficult is how Shadow Pok\u00e9mon work in this game. With improved Shadow-type moves that are super effective against all non-Shadow-types and teams with 4 Shadow Pok\u00e9mon each, they really just make battles into a living hell. And worst of all, players are expected <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-should-have-returned-isle-of-armor\/\">to catch their shadow Pok\u00e9mon<\/a>, meaning they need to stall through super powerful attacks hoping they can survive just long enough to put all of them away. Oh\u2026 but it gets worse&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Greevil<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Greevil-pokemon.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final boss battle in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pok\u00e9mon XD: Gale of Darkness<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is even harder than the two brothers before. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/shiny-pokemon-worth-catching-sword-shield\/\">With 6 Shadow Pok\u00e9mon<\/a> that bring massive super effective damage against all non-Shadow-types, trainers need to sustain a team for a long time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even worse is how trainers have to catch each of them before they can move on to the next Pok\u00e9mon. On top of that, three of the Shadow Pok\u00e9mon are the legendary birds, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.
