Many Nintendo fans were ecstatic when a surprise Direct announced a number of events to celebrate Mario’s 35th anniversary. Reactions were big for the Super Mario 3D All-Stars<\/strong><\/em> collection and\u00a0in-game events in Splatoon<\/em> and Mario Kart Tour<\/em>, as well as a re-release of Super Mario 3D World<\/em> with additional content, mean this is going to be a big year for the plucky plumber. With that said, it looks like COVID-19 may have delayed the party after a bit of digging on Nintendo’s website reveals an earlier date for an anniversary event.<\/p>\n

The entire Direct was filled with all things Mario, and likely offered something for every Mario fan out there. Mario 3D World<\/em> might be adding multiplayer and some extra content, but fans are really freaking out about the Super Mario 3D All-Stars<\/em> collection<\/a>. Combining Super Mario 64<\/em>, Super Mario Sunshine<\/em>, and Super Mario Galaxy<\/em> in one package offers a lot of nostalgia in one place for fans.<\/p>\n

While this Mario-centric Direct did come during the month when Mario first headlined a game with his name in the title, some digging by well-known internet sleuth Wario64 has revealed that these anniversary projects might have been hit with delays thanks to COVID-19. Found in the now unavailable “challenge” section of Nintendo’s Mario website is a promotional flyer for a Ninji Speedrun\u00a0event for Super Mario Maker 2<\/a> that features what is likely the same anniversary course announced in the Direct. The event was set to run in April of this year, and included prizes for the fastest times. This revealing discovery has fans wondering if this 5-month delay impacted other titles and events unveiled in the Mario 35th Anniversary Direct as well.<\/p>\n
